Coleman and Scarlets building a program
The Arlee Scarlets have a new head coach in Ross Coleman and have already matched their win total from last year's two-win season.
"I am looking to build this program where our success is not defined by the win/loss record at the end of the season," Coleman, who has been at Arlee for three years, said. "Success in this program will be defined by individual players' growth on the court, but more importantly, off of the court. I am trying to build a program that produces confident young women that look to overcome adversity and push themselves to their selves."
Leah Mesteth has stepped up to prove herself to be a leader on the court. Meanwhile, sophomore Porter Pier is showing promise each and every practice.
"Leah consistently helps and advises the younger or less experienced teammates," Coleman said. "I often look at her to control the court and direct her teammates. Porter challenges me with upper-level basketball questions that many do not even recognize. She is recovering from a hip injury over the summer and consistently pushes herself to be a better player."
Coleman said that the strength of the Scarlets will be their flexibility and willingness to do what is needed of them.
"They are willing to learn and build upon their previous experiences and talent to come together to be a successful team," Coleman said. "I am blessed to be part of an amazing group of young women who love the game of basketball. They push themselves daily to better human beings and basketball players. I look forward to a great season learning more about myself as a coach and to learn from this group of girls."
