Flower Power needed to fill summer baskets
“We can’t envision looking down Main Street this summer and not seeing the blooming flower baskets,” says Jennifer Rolfsness, administrative assistant for the Greater Polson Community Foundation.
After the City of Polson decided to no longer support the Flower Basket project or water the 70 baskets, the Greater Polson Community Foundation stepped in to help save the project. “Flower baskets adorn cities from Whitefish to Hamilton,” notes Rolfsness. “The baskets signify a unique community statement.”
The GPCF is soliciting “Flower Power” contributions from the public and local business community. A $200 sponsorship or donations of any amount are welcome.
The flower basket project started in Polson in the late 1980s with a small group of citizens and in collaboration with the chamber of commerce. The project has bloomed in popularity and the demand for more baskets has grown.
The Polson flower baskets enhance the beauty of the downtown area, and are appreciated by out-of-area visitors and locals as well.
“This is a wonderful way to give back to our community and enhance the beauty of our city,” says Rolfsness.
“The downtown hanging baskets are a shining example of a project that is accessible to, and appreciated by, people of all ages, income levels, physical ability, and religions,” she adds. “The flowers represent a universal message of comfort and beauty and welcome all to our city.”
