Feb. 7, 2002, Lake County Leader

Mission/Charlo ended Thompson Falls' three-year reign atop the Western B-C wrestling world and drove home with the trophy last weekend. The top four wrestlers in each weight class will advance to next week's state meet in Billings.

Coach Jon Matt attributed some of his team's success to Jason Sargent, who coached the team the previous year.

Mercer says 'thanks but no thanks'

Feb. 6,1992, Lake County Leader

House Minority Leader John Mercer of Polson says he's flattered by speculation that he may seek the Republican nomination for governor – but is not all that interested in the job.

Mercer's was one of several names mentioned last week after Gov. Stan Stephens announced on Friday that he would not seek reelection.

Mercer told the Leader he considers the Montana Legislature his first political priority. After serving in four regular sessions, he said he's "finally getting a chance to do something" is his current role as minority leader in the House.

Her home on the hill south of Polson may be popular with winged visitors, but never robins on the fourth day of February.

Last Friday, Mission Valley residents saluted the last day of January in shirt sleeves, as temperatures at the Flathead Irrigation Project headquarters in St. Ignatius soared to 67 degrees.

Polson chamber hears about post-war projects

Feb. 8, 1945, Flathead Courier

The Polson chamber of commerce met at city hall last week to discuss post-war projects. Among the possibilities:

Mr. Gray of Pablo presented a plan to try and get a federal hospital.

Walt Sheneman said road construction is the county commissioners' major focus as soon as the war is over, including work on the east lake shore road, Round Butte-Ronan road, and the Charlo-Moiese road.

Mrs. Johnson, a school trustee, stated that the gymnasium was of prime importance; Jack Felden told of the proposed municipal docks, pier and boat house; and Elmer Sampson reported that the old wooden water mains in Polson would be replaced with metal mains as soon as they are available.
