Michael Corrigan, 72

| February 16, 2023 12:00 AM

Michael Lee Corrigan of Polson passed away unexpectedly and too soon, surrounded by family, on Sunday, Feb. 5, at St. Patrick’s Hospital in Missoula.

Michael was born Dec. 12, 1950, in Polson to Don and Bertie Corrigan. Mike grew up in Polson and during high school he was active in Pirate football and track. He graduated in 1969.

Mike met the love of his life Cathy at age 14 and they dated throughout high school until they married June 28, 1970.

Mike and Cathy welcomed their first handsome son Shawn Corrigan on Oct. 1, 1973. After which they relocated to central Montana where Mike worked at a sawmill and they welcomed their second son, the soft-hearted giant, Bryan Corrigan, on May 3, 1977.

Mike and Cathy briefly lived in Idaho where Mike worked as a logger, and their third son, quiet, easy-to-talk-to Bill Corrigan, completed the family on Sept. 25, 1980.

In 1983 they followed their hearts and returned home to Polson, where Mike worked at Security State bank doing maintenance and custodial duties. During this time, Mike also did maintenance for several other properties in the Polson area.

In 2000 Mike started work at Polson Middle School as a custodian. He worked at the school until he retired in 2018.

Mike was a lifelong member of the Elks Lodge #1695 from 1973 to present. The Elks were his extended family; you could always find him there in his chair, ready to share a good joke or story with friends.

Mike was an avid outdoorsman, he loved being outside and hunting with his boys, grandkids, and family friends. He was a great supporter of his Pirate sports, always showing up to cheer on the football, wrestling and volleyball teams. He loved to grow his tomatoes, although he hated them. He loved to share them with Piggy at the daycare, his daughter in laws, and anyone at the Elks who would take them. He was a member of the Rocky Mountain Elks foundation and supported Ducks Unlimited.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Bertie Corrigan; his brothers Gary and Larry Corrigan; his Beloved wife Cathy Corrigan; and his precious granddaughters, Madison Lee Corrigan, and Aunika Katelynn Corrigan.

He is survived by his sons Shawn (Brandy) Corrigan, Bryan (Cathleen) Corrigan, Bill (Tracee) Corrigan, and Dale (Mandy) Ramesar; grandchildren Dylan (Eva), Cheyanne (Rick), Shelby (Mike), Austin (Malia), Michael (Jaelynn), Mariah (Justin), Mason (Gwen), Mackinly, Paige, Max, Merrick; and his great grandchildren Peyton, Hunter, Nathan, Dean, Aria, and Dextin.

Mike was a fixture in the Polson community. He touched many people that he met. You could always find him driving around in his blue pickup and side by side checking on his families’ houses, going to Pablo Reservoir to watch the pelicans, or hanging out at the Elks. He had a large heart and welcomed so many into his home and extended family. He was our big teddy bear, and he will be in all our hearts forever.

A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 18, at the Polson Elks Lodge.

In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Mission Valley Elks #1695 Veterans Memorial Fund.
