Wilson signs with Montana Tech
For those who saw Polson quarterback Jarrett Wilson play on Friday nights, it comes as no surprise he will be playing on Saturdays next fall.
Wilson, who threw for 115 touchdowns and rushed for 27 others for the Pirates, signed to play for Montana Tech University of the NAIA in Butte.
"The coaches, they're just great," Wilson said. "They are building an excellent program, bringing in many great recruits. I could tell they wanted me. It's a great school, and I like the atmosphere."
Wilson notes that he’s a Montanan and likes Tech’s proximity to his hometown. He also appreciates the Butte community and the opportunity to play football right in the middle of everything.
"I think the Butte community is a fun place to play football – it's kind of right in the middle of everything, Missoula, Bozeman, that's nice," Wilson said. "I mean, I'm a Montana boy; I think I like that I'm gonna be able to stay close to home. People from high school can come to watch."
Wilson said that playing quarterback has been a dream of his ever since he started playing football. The Montana Tech coaches intend to allow him to continue that dream and keep him in that quarterback position as they quest for a national championship after a 7-3 record last year.
Wilson has had a successful high school career with two undefeated regular seasons. He scored a lake-full of points and passed for over 8,800 yards, and rushed for over 1,800 more in a Pirate uniform.
However, when asked about the stats, he said winning was more important.
"You kind of do what you have to do to win,” he said. “The stats kind of came along with it." Wilson said he hasn't decided what to do this spring, but he will be getting ready by throwing and working out. He plans to get on the Montana Tech workout program and prepare for the next season.
Wilson credits Polson Head Football Coach Kaden Glinnsman and coach Ryan Antos, who helped him become the player he is today, and is thankful for all the other coaches he’s had along the way. He also has a supportive family, including his parents, Scott Wilson (former Polson head football coach), Kristin Wilson, his older brother, Tanner Wilson, and his triplet brothers and Pirate teammates, Colter and Trent.
With Wilson's talent and determination, Montana Tech football fans and Polson fans willing to make the drive have a lot to look forward to in the coming years.
