Montana Class A Duals
In the Montana Class A Duals, held in Lewistown, Mission Valley teams were busy playing through the dual brackets against the state's best.
Ronan defeated Hardin 48-29 in the first round with pins by August Courville (103), Koy McAllister (132), Brady House (170) Cole Dalke (182), and Jackson Davis (285). Ronan then won its second-round matchup against Custer County 42-28 with pins by Ridge Cote (120), Fortino Silva (138), Will James Courville (145), Koda King (152), Hout, and Davis.
The Chiefs then defeated Park 49-18, as Jairyn Krause (126), Silva, Dominique McKay (152), Hout, Luc Cheff (113), and Cote notched pins.
Ronan finished its fifth matchup with a 48-29 win over Beaverhead County. Hout, Courville, Cote and McAllister picked up wins when the Chiefs needed them most.
In the quarterfinals, Ronan fell to Frenchtown 38-30 despite pins by Cote, McAllister, Silva, and Courville.
Polson fell in their first-round match to Lockwood 59-18 but defeated Whitefish 42-24. Against Whitefish, Kyrin Doty picked up a pin at 182 pounds. The Pirates then lost to Libby/Tory 66-6 in the third round despite a pin by Jaren Keene at 170 pounds.
Polson lost in round four to Havre 66-6.
Fergus Girls Invite
Mission Valley teams brought home plenty of medals from the Fergus Girls Invite in Lewiston on Saturday, Jan. 21.
Ronan had two first-place finishes. Saellah Nomee won the 100-pound bracket with three straight pins. Tirza TwoTeeth placed first in the 235-pound bracket with two falls and a major decision.
Juliette Cheff was fourth for Ronan, with three falls and a decision in the consolation bracket of the 120-pound bracket. Katie Dolence was second at 126 pounds after advancing via a pin, decision, and injury default to the championship round. Brynn Courville was third at 132 pounds with a pin, bye, decision, and pin in the third-place match. Leona Dodson was third in the 152-pound bracket posting three falls over the tournament.
Polson got a big performance from Venessa Wheeler at 165 pounds. Wheeler placed second in the tournament, picking up a pin in the second round and then posting another pin to bring home the silver.
Ted Kato Memorial Tournament
At Thompson Falls on Saturday, Jan. 21, Arlee's Brody Smith and Mission's Chance Brockman stood out. Brockman placed third with three pins and a forfeit in the 160-pound bracket, while Arlee's Smith Picked up a forfeit and a pin for third in the 120-pound bracket.
