Polson Senior Center: Recycle those grocery bags

Thought for Feb. 2, Groundhog Day: A groundhog is a rodent, not a meteorologist.

The center recently purchased Super-0ne grocery bags (the green ones) to be used for Commodity Food Distributions. These were purchased in bulk, at cost, for about $.10 each. Help us out. Recycle your clean green bags for use at the Senior Center. The smaller grey, white or tan bags can be donated at the Food Pantry or Country Store as they are neither strong nor large enough for our purposes.

Income-tax filing assistance is now available at the Polson Senior Center on Mondays or Thursdays; call 406-883-4735 for an appointment and bring all of your paperwork.

The center continues to develop a Facebook page and an active email list for our members and the community at large. Sign up at the center or email info to polsonseniorcenter@gmail.com. Guest wi-fi will be available soon.

Sign up for Tai Ji Quan: Moving for Better Balance Classes, taught by Dixie Bisson. These slow and easy exercises improve flexibility, strength and mobility. The six-week classes cost $15 for members of Polson Senior Citizens and $30 for non-members. Sessions are 10-11 a.m. Tuesdays and 1-2 p.m. Wednesdays for six weeks, starting Feb. 7.

Activities coming up at the center are open to all, and include: bowling for fun, 1 p.m. Tuesdays; bridge, 12:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Fridays (beginners welcome); low-impact exercise, 10:30-11:30 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays; pinochle, 12:30-3 p.m. Thursdays; bingo, 7 p.m. Fridays, with playing card bingo on the first Wednesdays and third Thursdays. The pool table is open 8 a.m.-3 p.m. weekdays.

A veteran’s representative will visit the center from 10 a.m.-noon Friday, Feb. 3, and Tuesday, Feb. 21.

Meals are available for sit-down, take-out or delivery from 11:45 a.m.-12:45 p.m. weekdays and cost $5. The menu is posted each week at the center.

Main dishes include: pigs-in-a-blanket, Jan. 26; the birthday lunch, which includes a traditional roast-beef dinner, Jan. 27; ham and wild rice soup, Jan. 30; tuna casserole, Jan. 31; spaghetti, Feb. 1; chicken enchiladas, Feb. 2; and pork chow mein, Feb. 3.

The center is open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays at 504 3rd Ave. E. For more information, call 406-883-4735 or email polsonseniorcenter@gmail.com.
