Polson Bay Golf Course can be summed up in one sentence.

"It is 27 beautiful holes on the shores of Flathead Lake," Polson Bay Golf Course Pro Cameron Milton said.

Opened in 1938, the course has offered incredible views of the lake and mountains for decades. In addition to the "Olde Course," consisting of the original nine holes that are 3,200 yards from the blue tees with a par of 36, it boasts the "Championship Course," measuring over 7,000 yards from the back tees and a par 72.

It's hard to miss the golf course driving into Polson, and the course's history provides an interesting look at the evolution of greens style. The Olde Course, built in the 1930s, has some =undulations that were normal before course technology increased green speeds to the pool-table velvet they are now.

The course offers twilight rates after 3 p.m. every day and family golf sessions on Sundays.

Milton said that the clubhouse deck is bigger now, allowing golfers to enjoy the sweeping views of the Mission Mountains and Flathead Lake. The Bunkers Grill is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The driving range is also open until 9 p.m. over the summer, but closes early on Wednesdays for a full pick-up of all the balls.

"The golf course typically stays open sometimes through November, but our peak season goes through September," Milton said. "October is usually when you'll see snow, but it’s all about what Mother Nature allows."

In May, Ron Ramsbacher won his fifth Polson Senior Open, while Bob Gray won the Super Senior title. The tournament raised over $11,000 for the Mission Valley Junior Golf Association, which has received national acclaim for its work.

Polson Bay Golf Course has a four-star rating from "Places to Play" by Golf Digest.
