| July 13, 2023 12:00 AM

Constance (Connie) Moss passed away in her sleep on June 8, 2023, in Lewiston, Idaho. Connie was born Sept. 15, 1934, in Helena to Viola and Leslie Christison. During Connie's senior year, the family moved to Great Falls.

Connie graduated from Montana State University in 1956 with a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education. While there, she met John Stewart, and they married in 1957. After graduation, she taught art in Billings and Livingston.

In 1958, they moved to California. In 1967, the family moved to Kodiak, Alaska, and then to Juneau in 1969. Connie and John divorced in 1982.

Living in Juneau, she worked as secretary to the minister at the NLUC and Victoria's, a women's clothing store. While working at Victoria's she met and became friends with Bella Hammond whose husband later became governor of Alaska. It was Connie's friendship with Bella that led to her becoming Executive Residence Manager of Alaska's Governor's Mansion 1975-1987. In 1987-1989 she was Alaska's Chief of Protocol before retiring from the state of Alaska. During this time span, she dated Kenneth W. Moss.

Connie married Kenneth W. Moss on Jan. 5, 1990, and they honeymooned in Hawaii. Each year on their wedding anniversary, they traveled back to Hawaii, visiting a different island each time. They lived in Juneau until August of 1999. During this time Connie and Kenn enjoyed their home (Cove Side) on Lena Cove, gardening, pottery, walking with their dog, Brody, entertaining family, and friends.

In August 1999, she and Kenn moved to Montana to take care of her mother (Viola) and lived in Great Falls. When Connie's mom passed away, she and Kenn had a home built in Polson that looked over the town and Flathead Lake.

She and Kenn made friends there and were active members of the Polson First Presbyterian church, where she served as a Deacon. They hosted dinner parties at their home and traveled with friends in Montana, cruising the East Coast, Canada, and visiting several countries in Europe.

In 2022, Connie and Kenn moved to Lewiston, Idaho to be closer to family.

Connie is survived by her loving husband of 33 years, Dr. Kenneth Moss; by her children, Tom Stewart (Nelda) of Juneau, Alaska, Jeanne Cox (Chuck) of Everett, Wash., Laura Ryan (Jim) of Clarkston, Wash., and David Moss of Roseburg, Ore.; grandchildren Clayton Stewart, Ashley Stewart, Anthony Stewart (Karen), Nick Stewart, Coleman Guggenbickler (Nicole), Katy Bittle (Kyle), Kelly Leonard (Jeremy), and Jackie Olson (Will); and many great-grandchildren.

Connie's wish is to be cremated and have her ashes spread at a special location.
