Mission Valley track athletes shine at state meets
Mission Valley athletes found the podium at State A, B and C Track and Field Championships over the weekend, with Mission Senior Bryce Umphrey winning gold in the long jump at the Class B Championships in Butte with a personal best mark of 21-2.25.
Umphrey was also third in the triple jump with a mark of 42-0.50. Zoran LaFrombois was fifth in the 3,200-meter run (10:14.74) with a personal record.
Arlee's Charly Crawford was fifth in the javelin with a mark of 148-03.
Mission senior and all-conference baseball player Canyon Sargent was sixth in the shot put with a heave of 43-6.
On the girls' side, Arlee's Raven Parson was fourth in the high jump with a personal best of 5-0. Parson was seventh in the long jump (16-3.75).
Charlo’s Smith takes fourth in 3,200
At the State C Track and Field Championships in Laurel, Charlo placed in five individual events at the Laurel Sports Complex last weekend and had one relay team place in the top eight.
Hayden Smith was fourth in the 3,200-meter run with a personal record of 10:19.25 for Charlo.
Charlo junior Hayden Hollow was sixth in the 800-meter run (2:02.66). Teammate Tucker Love was seventh in the javelin with a throw of 149-08.
Keaton Piedalue was eighth in the 400-meter run with a personal record for the Charlo senior of 52.43.
Charlo's 4x400 relay team was eighth (3:36.57) with the running of Hayden Hollow, Tucker Love, Tayre Brown and Keaton Piedalue.
On the girls' side, Aida Cote was sixth for Charlo in the 800-meter run (2:24.78) with a personal record. Cote was sixth in the discus with a heave of 104-10.
Polson and Ronan finish strong
At the Class A Championships in Laurel, Polson and Ronan had strong finishers in several events. Ronan's Leina Ulutoa was second in the triple jump (37-00). Teammate Kylie Fetui was seventh in the javelin with a heave of 111-01, a personal best.
Senior Maiden Olivia Heiner was fifth in the 800-meter run (2:23.37) and 10th in the 1,600-meter run (5:28.96), a personal best.
On the boy's side, Polson's Drifter Skillicorn was second in the long jump with a personal best of 21-8.75 and was ninth in the 400-meter run (51.77).
Ronan's Connor Durglo was eighth in the triple jump (41-10.5)
The Pirates' Astin Brown was 10th in the shot put with a personal best mark of 45-10.75.
