K. William Harvey Elementary in Ronan is among 22 Montana schools to receive a 21st Century Community Learning Centers (CCLC) Grant. Qualifying public and nonpublic schools and community programs receive federal grant awards between $70,000 and $250,000 a year for five years. These grant dollars connect learning programs before school, after school, and during the summer months for families that meet economic thresholds. Programs provide academic support in reading and math; music and art; health and wellness; technology and career development; drug and violence prevention; and social skills.
Nora Webster of Ronan received a $1,000 visual arts scholarship from the Hockaday Museum of Art in Kalispell. Webster graduated June 2 from Ronan High School with a 4.0 GPA and plans on working in art restoration while also attending Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, to study art education. She has been a 4-H mentor, and also recently helped restore the murals in the historic Catholic Mission in St. Ignatius.
Carroll College in Helena recently named the following Lake County students to its 2023 spring semester dean’s list: Natalie Yocum, Arlee; Bellicia Hawk, Charlo; Margaret Todd, Polson; Brooklyn Kenelty and James Normandeau, Ronan; and Katelyn Young, St. Ignatius.
The Women of Rollins Club awarded the Emma Sager Memorial Scholarship for $1,000 to Polson High senior Hakyla Riggs through the Polson Scholarship and Education Foundation. Riggs, who graduated June 3, was in a dual enrollment program through Flathead Valley Community College’s STEM Academy at Salish Kootenai College. She is also involved in SKC Upward Bound, was a member of the PHS band and attended ground school with Red Eagle Aviation. Hakyla is planning on attending Montana State University and majoring in Computer Science.
Ryan LaFleur of Arlee graduated with a bachelor’s in Computer Science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y. Founded in 1824, Rensselaer is America's first technological research university and encompasses five schools, over 30 research centers and more than 140 academic programs.
