Wilson and Umphrey impact outcome in East-West Shrine Game

Two Mission Valley players had a big impact in the 76th annual Montana Shrine Game in Butte on Saturday, June 18. Montana Tech-bound quarterback Jarrett Wilson of Polson threw a 32-yard touchdown pass to Mission’s Bryce Umphrey to put the West team up 22-7 in the third quarter.
Wilson threw for 115 touchdowns and rushed for 27 others during his record-setting career for the Pirates.
Umphrey and Canyon Sargent were the first Mission players to represent the Bulldogs in the Shrine Game in 21 years. Both players came off strong performances in the state’s first 8-man All-Star game earlier this month, where they earned MVP nods for offense and defense.
Wilson’s touchdown pass opened the floodgates for the West, which had led the East 15-7 at halftime. After the break, The West outscored the East 30-6 in the second half for a 45-13 victory.
Wilson finished the game passing 8-for-16 for 154 yards. The West wrapped up with 252 passing yards and took to the skies against the East, which focused on the running game.
The East rushed 31 times for 133 yards, while the West also picked up yardage on the ground, rushing 39 times for 159 yards. The East passed for just 66 yards through the air.
It was the third straight victory by the West, which still trails the East in the overall series 41-35.
It also marked the final high school game for seniors Wilson, Umphrey and Sargent.
