St. Ignatius Seniors: Food key to good health
Have a safe and fun July Fourth. The Arlee Powwow will start June 28 and run until July 4.
Words to ponder: According to a popular wellness model there are eight dimensions of wellness that include the following: physical, intellectual, occupational, spiritual, social, financial, environmental and emotional. Specifically, the physical dimension includes recognizing the need for body movement, quality sleep and good nutrition. When it comes to nutrition, the foundation for our survival, food is connected directly to the health of our brains.
Gardens have started to produce and fresh vegetables are healthy for each of us. If you have a garden and find yourself with extra veggies and/or fruit, please remember the senior
centers and your local food pantries. I know everyone enjoys these items.
The center has been gifted with 1,000-piece puzzles and has over 50. If you would be interested or know someone who could use a pastime pick a few up at the center.
Everyone is welcome to come and enjoy a meal at the center at noon Fridays and Tuesdays and 5:30 p.m. selected Wednesdays. Menus are available via email, mail, or at the center. You don’t have to be a senior to join and support our center and meet neighbors old and new. Membership is just $10 a year.
Main dishes include: BBQ pork sandwiches, June 30; Indian tacos, July 5; and tuna casserole, July 7. If you are interested in a take-out meal, please call 406-745-4462 by 10 a.m. and leave a message.
Gentle Yoga meets at 1 p.m. Wednesdays. For more information, call 406-253-0177.
Foot Hill Club gathers at 1 p.m. on the second and fourth Wednesdays for snacks and cards.
The center has a computer available for public use from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesdays and Fridays; the facility is also available to rent. If you need a walker, commode, wheelchair or high-rise toilet seat, these items are available to share.
If you need help with other areas of your life such as transportation, respite and home health services, or other information, call the friendly people at Lake County Council on Aging in Ronan at 406-676-2367.
