Polson Seniors: The Rites of Spring

Time to begin the Rites of Spring, like digging out your umbrella and rain gear, if you can remember where you put them. April showers bring May flowers, as the old saying goes. I say April showers bring more showers, and if it lets up enough to plant your garden, you should.

Come in and see our new carpet! This new heavy-traffic variety will last longer and be easier to maintain.

Most of the recent upgrades and repairs have come from the estates of deceased members of the Polson Senior Citizens. We are grateful for their generosity, and thankful for your continuing support.

Some members are interested in a regularly scheduled “board game night” in which a number of games may be offered, such as Scrabble, cribbage, Yahtzee, Uno, Chinese checkers, etc. Separate tables will be set up for separate games; leave contact info at the center.

Ping-pong anyone? If you have an interest in playing, sign up at the center.

Free tax-filing assistance is available on Mondays or Thursdays from now until April 13. Come in or call for an appointment and pick up a filing information packet.

The Ronan Senior Center is hosting pinochle games every Monday from 3:30-6 p.m.

Activities at the Polson center, open to all, include: bowling for fun, 1 p.m. Tuesdays; bridge, 12:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Fridays (beginners welcome); low-impact exercise, 10:30-11:30 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays; Tai Ji Quan – Moving for Better Balance, taught by Dixie Bisson, 10-11 a.m. Tuesdays and 1-2 p.m. Wednesdays (new people are welcome); pinochle, 12:30-3 p.m. Thursdays; bingo, 7 p.m. Fridays ($100 payout on blackouts), with playing card bingo on the first Wednesdays and third Thursdays. The pool table is open 8 a.m.-3 p.m. weekdays.

A veteran’s representative will visit the center from 10 a.m.-noon Friday, April 7, and Tuesday, April 18.

Meals are available for sit-down, take-out or delivery from 11:45 a.m.-12:45 p.m. weekdays and cost $5. The menu is posted each week at the center; call before 10 a.m. for deliveries.

Main dishes include: Polish dogs and mac and cheese, March 23; birthday lunch with roast turkey and stuffing, March 24; beef noodle soup, March 27; BBQ pork, March 28; taco potato, March 28; turkey ala king, March 30; and meatloaf, March 31.

The center is open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays at 504 3rd Ave. E. For more information, call 406-883-4735 or email polsonseniorcenter@gmail.com.
