Softball: Mission Valley teams keep bats swinging

Lady Pirates defeat Browning in the rain

Polson plated six runs in the second and third innings to defeat Browning 16-1 in Northwestern A Conference action on Friday, May 5. McKenna Hanson homered in the vehicle and finished the game with two RBI, while Nikki Kendall went 3-for-3 for the Lady Pirates with a triple and drove in three runs.

Avery Starr pitched in the four-inning game for Polson, striking out seven, allowing just one hit.

Samantha Rensvold drove in two runs and had a double in the matchup.

Polson improved to 11-2 on the season.

At Polson

MAC sinks Florence

Izzy Evans picked up the pitching win while notching three hits, a double, and a home run at the plate to help lift Mission-Arlee-Charlo past Florence 8-2 on Saturday, May 6, on the road.

Payton Smith drove in three runs, while Lettie Umphrey had two RBI for the Lady Bulldogs. Gabby Smith and Rheid Crawford each had doubles in the matchup as well.

Evans pitched all seven innings, scattering 10 Florence hits, giving up no earned runs, and striking out two.

MAC led 2-1 after three innings, plated a run in the top of the fourth, and then rallied for four runs in the fifth. The Lady Bulldogs then scored an insurance run in the seventh and finished with nine hits as a team.

MAC improved their record to 16-1 on the season.

MAC two-hits Loyola

Loyola didn't make much movement while Mission-Arlee-Charlo stormed the base paths in a 13-0 victory on Friday, May 5. Rheid Crawford hit a home run and finished the game with three RBI for the victory.

Payton Smith and Jada Domebo combined to hold Loyola to just two hits in the matchup, while MAC had eight team hits and 11 stolen bases. Maia Christopher and Hayleigh Smith each had three stolen bases. Smith also had two hits and slapped a double. Smith had two hits in the game, as did Lettie Umphrey.

MAC led 5-0 after two innings and then had a big seven-run rally in the bottom of the third. Loyola committed six errors in the game.

At St. Ignatius

Polson defeats Ronan

Avery Starr homered, and the Polson Lady Pirates came away with a 14-3 victory over their Lake County rival Ronan on Thursday, May 4. Polson had a hot start, going up 9-0 in the first inning and continuing to score every inning.

Nikki Kendall had three hits and two RBI for the Lady Pirates, while Carli Maley and Tyneesha Brown also had multi-hit games. Carli Maley also drove in two runs. Brown and McKenna Hanson also doubled in the matchup.

Ronan scored a run in the second and two runs in the top of the third to pull within 10-3, but Polson scored four unanswered runs.

Polson pitcher Samantha Rensvold went three and two-thirds innings in the five-inning matchup, striking out three, allowing just one walk, and giving up just six hits.

Ronan's Mira Corum had two hits, while Kaliegh Benson, Tyariah Morigeau and Morgan Simpson each drove in runs for the Maidens. Brogan Youngren, Morigeau, and Corum each had doubles in the matchup. Ronan finished with six hits as a team but committed ten errors.

MAC collects 16 hits in win over Eureka

The bats continued to be hot for Mission-Arlee-Charlo in a 14-2 victory over Eureka on Tuesday, May 2, with the Lady Bulldogs notching 16 hits as a team. Rheid Crawford had three hits and an RBI, while Izzy Evans added three hits, a triple, and four RBI in the matchup.

Payton Smith, Bennan Andersen, Gabby Smith, Jerny Crawford each had multi-hit games as Mission jumped out to a 12-1 lead through three innings. Kieran Incashola, Smith, and Andersen each drove in multiple runs. Anderson had a double, while Jerny Crawford had a triple.

Evans pitched four innings for the Lady Bulldogs, striking out seven and allowing just five hits.

At St. Ignatius

Ronan hooks Whitefish for 13 hits

Ronan’s bats exploded for 13 hits in a 16-1 Northwestern A Conference victory on Tuesday, May 2. Brogan Youngren had three hits and drove in two runs in the victory, while pitcher Tyariah Morigeau scattered four hits and struck out four.

The Maidens exploded for seven runs in the first inning, and notched another four runs in the second and five in the third. Ally Luedtke had two hits and drove in a run, while Morigeau helped her own cause with two hits. Mira Corum drove in three runs and Kaydance Santos drove in two.

Five different Ronan batters had hits, with Morigeau, Corum, Santos and Luedtke notching doubles. Ronan also stole four bases in the victory.

Ronan improved to 4-6 with the victory.

At Whitefish

Mission-Arlee-Charlo picks up rivalry win over Ronan

MAC pitcher Izzy Evans scatted eight Ronan hits and helped lift her team to a 7-0 victory over Ronan in nonleague softball action Monday, May 1. Evans struck out four in seven innings of play, but the Maidens couldn't find the plate against the MAC defense.

MAC led 6-0 after three innings and added another insurance run in the bottom of the sixth and finished with 10 hits as a team.

Hayleigh Smith, Rheid Crawford, Evans, and Lettie Umphrey each had two hits in the game, while Evans and Umphrey each drove in two runs. Umphrey also had a triple, while Jenry Crawford had a double.

Ronan's Kaleigh Benson had three hits, while Kaydynce Santos had a triple. Maiden pitched Tyariah Morgieau went three and a third innings, striking out four while giving up four earned runs.

It was Senior Night for the MAC players, and the following seniors were honored: Gabby Smith and Lettie Umphrey, Mission; Jerny Crawford, Rheid Crawford and Xaria Jacobson, Arlee; and Hayleigh Smith, Payton Smith and Bennan Andersen, Charlo.
