Polson claims second place in Western A Divisionals

Polson falls in Divisional championship game

Four-run rallies for Columbia Falls in the fourth and fifth innings proved to be the difference maker as the WildKats defeated the Lady Pirates 11-7 in the Western A Divisional Championship Game on Saturday, May 20, in Frenchtown.

Polson was tied 3-3 after three innings, but Columbia Falls had their two big rallies in the next two innings. The WildKats finished with 12 team hits.

Carli Maley notched a home run and finished with two hits, and Samantha Rensvold wound up with two hits. Polson scored a run in the top of the sixth and three more in the top of the seventh.

Avery Starr threw four and two-thirds innings, while Rensvold finished things up in the final one-and-a-third innings, not giving up a single run or hit.

Ronan falls to Corvallis

Ronan couldn’t quite complete the comeback and fell to Corvallis 6-5 on Saturday. Mira Corum, Kylee Kelch, Shelby Taylor, Kayleigh Benson, and Kaydynce Santos all had hits in the matchup.

Corvallis scored five runs to go up 5-2 in the bottom of the second, but Ronan answered back in the next inning with two runs. Corvallis went up 6-4 in the fifth and then notched another run in the top of the sixth.

In relief, Tyariah pitched two innings, striking out two and allowing no earned runs.

Ronan downs Whitefish

The Maidens collected 14 hits and downed Northwestern A foe Whitefish 16-5 in the consolation bracket on Saturday. While driving in two runs, Brogan Youngren had four hits, including two doubles and a triple.

Ronan led 10-4 after three innings, added a run in the fifth and sixth innings, then posted four runs in the seventh. Tracee Burland had three hits, while Tyariah Morigeau had two hits, a double, and drove in two runs. Kaleigh Benson had two hits and a double.

In the circle, Kaydynce Santos pitched five and one-third innings in relief, striking out six and allowing just one earned run and four hits.

Lady Pirates advance to final

A walk-off run by Polson against Frenchtown punched the Lady Pirates' ticket to the Western A Divisional Championship Game on Saturday, May 20.

Polson scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to go up 4-2 on the Lady Broncs, who replied with a two-rally of their own in the top of the seventh. Tyneesha Braun doubled on a one-two count to drive in the walk-off run.

The Lady Pirates finished with 12 team hits, including two from McKenna Hanson, Carli Maley, Kailey Smith, and Ansley Nordberg. Hanson also had a double, as did Alexa Peterson, Maley, and Brown.

Maley, Avery Star, Kailey Smith, and Nordberg all drove in runs in the contest.

Starr took to the circle in relief for the final four and two-thirds innings, striking out four.

Polson defeats Ronan

McKenna Hanson had two hits, two RBI, and a home run in Polson’s 7-5 victory over Ronan in Frenchtown on Friday. Polson led 6-0 after four innings before Ronan answered with a run in the top of the fifth and two in the top of the sixth and seventh. Lady Pirate Avery Starr pitched five and two-thirds, allowing two earned runs and striking out three. Samantha Rensvold relieved her and allowed two earned runs.

Carli Maley hit a home run in the contest for Polson.

Ronan’s Kaydynce Santos had three hits, a double, and a stolen base, while Kaleigh Benson had two RBI and a double. Kylee Kelch also notched a double and stole a base.

Tyariah Morigeau pitched five innings for Ronan, striking out four and giving up just five earned runs.

Polson wins Divisional opener

The Lady Pirates had 16 hits as a team, including a home run by Kayleigh Smith in a 15-5 Western A Divisional victory over Dillon on Friday.

McKenna Hanson and Smith had three hits, while three other players had multiple hit games. Tyneesha Brown and Ansley Nordberg had doubles.

Rensvold pitched five innings and gave up just four earned runs.

Polson pitcher Samantha Rensvold went all five innings, striking out five.

Ronan wins in high-scoring battle

The Maidens opened the Western A Divisional Softball Tournament with an 18-14 victory over Stevensville on Friday in Frenchtown. Brogan Youngren had three hits and two RBI for Ronan in the victory.

Stevensville led 10-7 after three innings, but the Maidens answered with a six-run rally in the top of the fourth. Ronan added four more runs in the top of the sixth for a 17-11 lead and then staved off a Stevensville rally.

Both Ronan and Stevensville finished with 12 team hits. Kaydynce Santos had three hits and two RBI, while Kaleigh Benson had two hits and two RBI to go along with a double. Kyle Kelch had a triple.
