| November 2, 2023 12:00 AM

Mema, as we all called her, went to be with our Lord and Savior Aug. 20, 2022, at 8:11 p.m. in Levelland, Texas.

Jewell Janece Bell Hulse was born to Jewel and Alma Bell at the home of Charles and Edna Holt (her grandparents) on Oct. 11, 1928, in Brownfield, Texas. She had a lively childhood growing up on a ranch in Needmore, Texas. She attended elementary school in Needmore and later attended Meadow High School in Meadow, Texas. Janece and the other Needmore children enjoyed playing basketball and baseball where she always pitched a winning game.

She met and later married her husband, Calvin Carroll Hulse, on Sept. 10, 1945. Together they had two sons, Alfred LaVerl and Carroll Max. They raised their sons in Welman, Texas, on their farm.

On June 10, 1980, she arrived in her true home in Ronan. She resided there until Oct. 11, 2020, when she moved back to Texas to live close to her sons.

She is preceded in death by her father and mother, Jewell and Alma; her husband, Carroll; her sisters, Duane and Marjean, and her brother, Terell. She is survived by her two sons, six grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

She will always be remembered for her sassy attitude, smiling face and excellent cooking. Memorial services will be held at the Ronan Church of Christ on Nov. 11, 2023, at 11 a.m. A potluck will follow services.
