Polson falls to Whitefish, heads to playoffs
Whitefish picked up a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Polson in Northwest A boys’ soccer action on Saturday, Oct. 7. The late second-half goal by the Bulldogs dropped Polson’s season record to 3-5 in conference play and sends them into playoffs with 5-6 overall.
The boys team heads to Billings Oct. 14 to play Billings Central at 10 a.m. at Amend Park in the quarter-final round.
During Saturday's game, Ryder Elliott scored for Whitefish in the 60th minute on a penalty kick for the game's lone score. Maddox Bird had seven saves for the Pirates in goal.
Polson outshot Whitefish 14-8 and had six shots on goal. The Pirates also had two corner kick opportunities compared to Whitefish’s four. It was a foul-filled game, as Polson had 16 fouls, and Whitefish had 10.
Polson’s Anthony Lichtenberg had four shots, including two on goal, while Ashten Nelson had three shots, including one on goal.

Bigfork’s first half lifts Vikings to victory
All the scoring occurred in the first half as Bigfork downed Polson 2-1 in Northwest A boys’ soccer action on Tuesday, Oct. 3.
Bigfork scored first in the fifth minute as Caleb Riedesel found the back of the net on a penalty kick. The Vikings scored two minutes later to go up 2-0.
Polson, however, wasn’t gone as Pablo Gatell scored in the 12th minute for the Pirates.

Whitefish enters postseason with 3-0 victory
Polson girls faced up against the Northwest A champion, Whitefish, on Saturday, Oct. 7, and fell 3-0 in the final regular season game of the year.
Whitefish scored all its goals in the first half. Isabelle Cooke scored in the ninth minute on an assist for Georgia Morell. Four minutes later, Delaney Smith scored on another assist from Morell. The scoring flurry wrapped up as Cooke scored her second goal on an assist from Olivia Genovese in the 14th minute.
Ellie Dupuis had 12 saves in goal for the Lady Pirates in the matchup. Polson had 10 shots, including five on goal.
The Lady Pirates finished the season 4-8, while Whitefish goes into the state playoffs with a 10-2 overall record and a 7-1 mark in Northwest A action.

Bigfork sneaks past Polson girls
Polson held a 2-1 lead after the first half of play but eventually fell to Northwest A foe Bigfork by a score of 3-2 on Tuesday, Oct. 3.
Amelia Stene got the Lady Pirates on the board in the 15th minute on an assist from London Davis. Bigfork answered back with an equalizer two minutes later. Stene then scored her second goal for the Pirates on a pass from Myranda Heiser.
After the half, Bigfork scored in the 50th minute and then notched an equalizer six minutes before stoppage time.
The Lady Pirates finished with seven shots and five on goal.
