Lady Pirates stay solidly in second place
Polson scored a key Northwest A victory over Libby on Thursday, Oct. 5, by scores of 25-10, 25-14, 24-26, 25-8 to stay solidly in second place. Mckenna Hanson led the attack with seven kills, while Avery Starr managed the office with 17 assists.
Julia Barnard led the team with nine digs, while Kellyn Nelson had two blocks.
Polson improved to 8-3 overall and 7-2 in conference play, and Libby fell to 0-11.
In a matchup of the top two teams in the conference on Tuesday, Oct. 3, the Lady Pirates fell to the No. 1 Northwest A team in Whitefish by scores of 25-22, 23-25, 21-25, 25-18. Carli Maley had 11 kills, while Mckenna Hanson and Hannah Simpson each had 10 kills. Avery Starr dished out 36 assists, while Kellyn Nelson had four blocks.
Meanwhile, Julia Barnard had 18 digs on defense, while Hanson had 16.
Ronan falls to two conference foes
Columbia Falls swept Ronan in Western A volleyball action on Saturday, Oct. 7, by scores of 25-13, 25-18, 25-20. Mckenna Corley led the Maidens with 10 kills, while Sierra Blood added seven.
Behind the service stripe, Nevaeh Perez had four aces, while Seattle Adams controlled the offense with 12 assists and teammate Zailee Hewankorn had nine. Kailyn Marengo and Perez each had 10 digs.
Ronan fell to 5-5 in conference play and 6-6 overall.
On Thursday, Oct. 5, Ronan took Bigfork for five sets by falling 25-22, 25-22, 28-30, 24-26, 15-10 in Western A volleyball action. Mckenna Corley had 14 kills while Lauryn Buhr and Seattle Adams each had eight.
Adams also had 31 assists and three aces, while Buhr and Corley each had two blocks. Kailyn Morengon led the Maidens with 26 digs and Bailey Woll had 17, while Aubrey Krell added 15.
Mission drops two exciting matchups
Mission had a thrilling five-set matchup against Thompson Falls in Western B volleyball action on Friday, Oct. 5, but ultimately fell 22-25, 20-25, 25-23, 25-18, 11-15. Rowan McElderry led the Lady Bulldogs with nine kills, while Cora Matt and Izzy Evans each had eight kills.
McElderry had three blocks at the net, while Alecia Steele had two.
“Being down the first two sets, my players battled back hard,” Mission Head Coach Marissa Mock said. “It was an amazing game. These girls had confidence going into the final three sets.”
Amelia Cronk led Mission with 16 assists, while Evans and E’Liena Peone each had 21 digs, and the team finished with 117 total digs. Cronk also had four aces, while Jada Domebo and Wenona Tenas each had three aces.
On Tuesday, Oct. 3, Mission fell to Plains in five sets by scores of 25-19, 22-25, 26-24, 11-25, 14-16. Steele led the team with 12 kills, while McElderry had 11 kills.
Cronk again was proficient on offense, dishing out 21 assists, while Evans led the team in digs with 23. Steele and Dmoebo each had three aces, while Evans also had two blocks.
“This game was an absolute thriller,” Mock said. “Lots of long rallies, tough defense, and amazing offense from both teams.
Charlo defeats Hot Springs, Noxon
Charlo was able to down Hot Springs in four sets at home on Saturday, Oct. 7, by scores of 25-19, 23-25, 25-19, 26-24. The Lady Vikings improved to 7-0 in league play and 8-2 overall with just five games to play.
Charlo dropped the first set but bounced back to defeat Noxon 19-25, 25-11, 25-9, 25-16 on Friday, Oct. 6.
Aida Cote led the attack with 14 kills and two blocks, while Karly Alder had 16 assists. Brielle Zempel also helped with the offense with 11 assists. Shonlea Matt notched 20 digs, while Leah Cahoon had 12.
