Polson Frosh finish In Top 10 at Divisionals
Polson's freshmen led the way again as the boys team placed fifth, and the girls team placed sixth at the Western A Fall Classic Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Oct. 14, at King's Ranch Golf Course in Frenchtown.
"I was really impressed with the intensity, smart, tough racing and especially the way our runners moved up in the second half of their races," Polson Head Coach Matt Seeley said. "Both Morgan Delaney and Jackson Bontadelli have had very impressive freshman seasons. They head into the state meet with legitimate chances to finish top 10 and maybe even top five. This is a credit to both their talent and hard work throughout the year."
Freshman Morgan Delaney was fourth (19:45.11) after leading the race early, while senior Isabel Seeley was 14th (21:12.54). Both earned All-Conference honors with their times. Fellow senior Adison Carlson was 22nd (21:54.60) for her fifth-straight time under 21 minutes and senior Katelyn Smith (23:23.91). Sophomore Brittian Davis was 47th (23:27.81).
Ronan junior Saellah Nomee was 46th (23:27.42), and sophomore Annie Adams was 50th (24:01.66). Sophomore Maddie Duffey was 54th (24:58.16). Ronan senior Nichole Koehler was 58th (25:22.25).
On the boys side, freshman Jackson Bontadelli was just two seconds off his personal record and finished sixth (16:45.54) for Polson. Sophomore David DiGiallonardo dropped 31 seconds off his best time and was ninth (16:49.10).
"Both of our varsity teams are strengthened with a strong core group of three seniors each," Seeley said. "This leadership is proving extremely valuable. Our boys finished fifth on Saturday and are now ranked sixth in the state – highest in years – due to the balanced strength of Brandt, Hayden and Kai in our third, fourth and fifth spots."
Ronan junior Jacob Piapot was 22nd (17:34.24), and junior Tayen Edmo was 28th (17:51.50). William Normandeau was 30th (17:57.32).
Polson senior Brandt Heninger was 31st (17:58.05), Ronan sophomore Devin Big Medicine was 34th (18:13), and junior Koda King was 40th (18:32.63). Polson senior Hayden Clairmont was 48th (18:44.50).
This Saturday, qualifying runners will be in the MHSA All-Class State Cross County Meet at Rebecca Farm in Kalispell.
"Most of the hard training is behind us so this week we will be fine tuning with speedwork, tapering and prepping to be mentally tough and execute high-quality strategic races at State on Saturday," Seeley said.
