Arlee CDC hosts Halloween open house, art show
The Arlee Community Development Corporation will host a Halloween open house on Friday, Oct. 27, from 5-7 p.m.
The event will feature a Halloween photo booth, a new art display by the Killdeer Artisans Guild, Halloween treats and appetizers. Other refreshments include soup made with ingredients from the Garden for Life, the community garden sponsored by the Arlee CDC.
This is a free event and offers an opportunity to learn more about what is happening at the Arlee CDC, meet local artists, eat fresh food and capture a Halloween photo.
“We had an amazing year in our garden,” said Marie Hirsch, executive director of the Arlee CDC. “So far, our garden and six others on the reservation have yielded over 14,500 pounds of produce, with more still to be harvested. We’ll be featuring those fresh vegetables in the appetizers we’ll be serving at the open house.”
The photo booth will be set up in the bandstand and will feature a classic Halloween backdrop with a friendly witch. Children are encouraged to attend in costume. Those who take photos are encouraged to upload images to the Arlee Community Development Corporation Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/arleecdc
The new gallery exhibit is called “Open Your Eyes,” from a line written by Rachel Carlson emphasizing how art is a way of opening your eyes to new experiences and new ways of seeing things. Twenty artists are showing works ranging from painting and photography to weaving, embroidery, sculpture and custom wood furniture. Participants include Bobbe Almer, Laurie Childs, Jay Cross, Cameron Decker, Marti de Alva, Karen Fisher, Shawna Folden, Jerry Garcelon, Cheri Garcelon, Doug Hammerberg, Jeneese Hilton, Danny Kraus, Jane Lindgren, Iris Danhong Song, Diane Olhoeft, Karl Stein, Bonnie Tarses, Gail Trenfield, Joe Weydt and Frank White.
Attendees will have an opportunity to meet some of the artists and discuss their work. The Arlee CDC office is located at 92555 US Hwy. 93 in Arlee.
