Pirates fall to Hamilton on Senior Night
The Polson Pirates concluded their season Friday, Oct. 20, with a 33-14 home loss on Senior Night to Hamilton in Western A football action.
Hamilton jumped out to a 19-6 halftime lead and secured their sixth win of the season and the No. 3 seed out of the west in the Class A State Football playoffs.
A four-yard touchdown run and a 76-yard lateral trick play touchdown pass put Hamilton up 13-0 in the first quarter, and a 10-yard touchdown run rounded out the Broncs first-half scoring.
Polson’s Brock Henriksen scored from a yard out to make it 19-6 in the second quarter after a big Cody Haggard reception to set up the play. After the half, Hamilton found the endzone on a seven-yard touchdown pass.
The Pirates did have some big play magic in the third quarter as Holden Emerson found Henriksen for a 42-yard touchdown pass. The Broncs secured the game with a four-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
Hamilton finished with 125 yards on the ground, while Polson got 41 yards from Emerson. Emerson passed for 179 yards, Cody Haggard hauling in three passes for 64 yards and Henriksen nailed five catches for 57 yards. Henriksen was a leader on defense, with five tackles and four assists.
Tommy Sherry also had three catches for 37 yards.
Polson ends the season 4-4, and graduates 10 seniors from this year’s squad.
