Mission Valley Children's Choir resumes practices
The Mission Valley Children’s Choir begins its eighth year on Tuesday, Oct. 3, at the Faith Lutheran Church, 406 5th Ave. S.W. in Ronan with refreshments and ”together time” at 3:40 p.m. Rehearsals will be held from 4-5 p.m. every Tuesday.
The choir, open to children from the Mission Valley in grades 2-6, is directed by Cathy Gillhouse and accompanied by Wendy Sanders. Participation is free of charge.
Gillhouse will escort children who attend K. Wm. Harvey Elementary in Ronan to the church. They will meet at the flagpole in front of the school.
Gillhouse is the former Ronan Schools choir teacher and director of the Ronan Show Choir. She taught music for 41 years. She also played harp for the University of Montana, and has appeared in many Port Polson Players’ productions. She was recently named director of the Mission Valley Choral Society.
“My goal is to expose the children to many different styles of music throughout the year, ranging from multicultural, spirituals, folk songs, show tunes, patriotic, sacred and seasonal,” she says.
Gillhouse and Sanders are longtime musical collaborators and say they look forward to working with the choir again and hope it continues to be a fun and educational activity for Mission Valley children.
