Council approves street closure, election cancellation

Ronan City Council met on Sept. 13 at 6 p.m. Mayor Chris Adler moved the council through the agenda quickly.

As well as normal business, they approved street closure for the Ronan High School Homecoming Parade on Sept. 22 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.

They also agreed to an open container permit for Sept. 23 from noon to 8 p.m. for the Ronan Co-op Brewery for the Pedal to Plate Barbecue and a street closure from noon to 8 p.m. on Fourth Ave. from Main Street to the alley for the same event.

A resolution to cancel the Nov. 7 election for the general election for municipal officers passed unanimously. Only one candidate filed for each open position.

The second reading of the Permanent Ordinance for Parks, Trails, and Open spaces passed unanimously. The ordinance basically prevents people from camping in Ronan City parks.

Public Works Director Dan Miller told the council the planning board will discuss a proposed large subdivision south of Ronan at its meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 26 at City Hall. The 221-lot subdivision would be located on 130.87 acres east of town and if approved, would include a mix of multi- and single-family homes. The city council is required to take action on or before the review deadline of Oct. 18.

Ronan Police Chief Robert Jacobson explained mechanical difficulties with Ronan Police vehicles and said the city may need to replace a vehicle.
