There was little doubt in Arlee’s journey to 5-0 as they battered Superior 70-36 in 8-man football action on Friday, Sept. 22. The Warriors racked up 559 yards of total offense in their third win of the season.

Arlee started the scoring as Kendall O’Neill tossed a 16-yard touchdown pass to Bridger Smith. Jake Knoll then ripped off a 35-yard touchdown run for the 14-0 advantage. Superior scored on three-yard touchdown run but Arlee’s Jace Arca responded with a 50-yard scoring run for the 20-8 advantage.

“Our offensive line did a great job making holes for our running backs to get through and getting outside to make blocks at the next level,” Arlee Head Coach Quinn Huisman said.

Arlee scored again in the second quarter on an eight-yard run to go up to 27-8 but Superior answered back with a touchdown run. Before halftime, Knoll ripped off a 23-yard scoring run for the 34-14 advantage.

After the break, O’Neill found Kaiden Ostby for a six-yard touchdown pass to stretch the lead out to 26 points. Superior punched it in from the three-yard line to pull within 22-40, but that moment would be fleeting as Arca continued to run wild – notching a three-yard and a 55-yard touchdown run to make it 56-22.

“When the offensive line does their job, the rest of the offense tends to follow suit,” Huisman said. “It all starts with the big boys up front. I’m very proud of the work they have done this season.”

Superior wrapped up the third quarter scoring with a 16-yard touchdown pass but the big runs continued to pile the points up for the Warriors. In the fourth quarter, Knoll had touchdown runs of 78 and 68 yards for the big win.

Knoll finished with four rushing touchdowns while Arca also had four. O’Neill finished the game with 9-for-15 passing with 127 yards passing and two touchdowns.

It was the highest point total for Arlee of the season. The Warriors have scored 250 points so far this year, while giving up just 76 points.

“We need to keep showing up to each practice ready to learn and work hard,” Huisman said. “It’s a good group of kids to coach – it’s an honor to be their coach.”

Correction:

In last week's Leader, we incorrectly identified the player who scored the first touchdown for Arlee in their game against Mission. Bridger Smith was the receiver who caught a touchdown pass from Kendall O’Neill for the score. We apologize for the error.
