CSKT hosts Earth Day event at SKC
The Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes are hosting an Earth Day celebration April 19 at the Arlee and Charlo Theatre on the campus of Salish Kootenai College in Pablo.
The event opens at 9 a.m. with the drum group Sn Yel Mn, posting of colors by the Mission Valley Honor Guard, and an opening prayer by Stephen Small Salmon.
Tribal Council Chair Michael Dolson, along with Rick Eneas, Tony Incashola Jr., and Mike Durglo Jr. discuss actions CSKT has taken to address climate change, share the 2022 Tribal Council Climate Resolution, and discuss Mission Valley Power’s renewable energy programs.
Youth climate warriors take the stage at 10:30 a.m. and Laurel Eastman of the Citizens Climate Lobby will share climate resources from 1-1:30 p.m.
Afternoon presentations include “Climate Trends and Innovative Solutions for the Future” with Monica Tranel, Brian Lipscomb and Kyle Bocinsky; “Electric Vehicle Impacts on the Environment” with Derf Johnson; and information on planting garden and tree starts.
Lunch is served in the Sherri McDonald Hospitality Room.
