New coffee shop is a family affair

| April 18, 2024 12:00 AM

Daybreaker Coffee and Pastry Shop takes its name from its popular breakfast sandwich packed with scrambled eggs, crispy bacon, and gooey cheese baked in a pastry crust.

“We wanted to make a homemade, affordable, nutritious breakfast,” Ovella Beagley explained.

Located at 49558 U.S. Hwy. 93, the coffee and pastry shop serves espresso coffee drinks made with Good Coffee’s locally roasted beans, as well as homemade muffins and pastries.

It’s a family affair, too. Mom Ovella said she and her children wanted to be entrepreneurs and have a business of their own. Ovella works at the Whistle Bake Shop, owned by her son, Hendrick, and his wife, Sharon.

Ovella’s youngest son, Heber, did the remodeling on the buttercream-yellow shop on Highway 93. Daughters Rachael and Sadie are baristas in the Daybreaker coffee shop.

The Beagleys bought the Chipper Chick Coffee Company after the untimely death of former owner and popular barista Buffy McEvoy Shear.

Buffy’s husband, Dale, told Ovella that “Buffy made the place,” and the Beagley family wanted to honor that tradition. Barista Addison Colbert, who worked for Chipper Chick, also works with the Beagley family.

Hendrick and Sharon have called Polson home for about 10 years, but Ovella and the younger siblings moved here two years ago.

“We love it here,” Ovella said. “It’s so beautiful.”

With their commitment to homemade food, the Beagley ladies are “up and going by 4 a.m.,” according to Ovella.

“I’m a morning person,” she said, so she doesn’t mind.

The Beagley family still have a few plans for the Daybreaker, such as adding a couple of tables, some chairs, and maybe a sunshade for toasty summer days, so visitors can savor their repertoire of home-baked goods and locally brewed coffee outdoors.
