Bandits deal second loss to Mariners

Cranbrook ended Mission Valley's Western A District Tournament journey but not their season, as the Bandits defeated the Mariners 12-6 on Saturday, July 27 in Florence. Since Polson is hosting this week's American Legion Class A State Tournament, the Mariners have an automatic No. 2 seed in the bracket.

Mission Valley and Cranbrook each had 12 hits in the contest. Mission Valley led 4-3 in the first three innings, but Cranbrook notched a five-run fourth. The Bandits added a run in the fifth and three more in the sixth.

The Mariners scored two in the seventh but couldn't overcome the deficit. Cole Wadsworth went 3-for-5 in the game, while Landon Shoemake went 2-for-4.

Dawson DuMont made the most of the first two hitters in the lineup having a big day, going 3-for-3, notching a double, and driving in a run. Wyatt Wadsworth went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI as well.

Aiden Gfroerer and Holden Emerson each drove in runs. The Mariners, however, committed four errors in the matchup. The Mariners are now 25-19 going into the state tournament.

Polson hosts the State Tournament July 31-Aug. 4 at O'Malley Field, and play their first game at 5 p.m. Wednesday, July 31, against the Vauxhall Spurs.
