Farm Notes from U.S. Agriculturist in Ronan
A considerable number of people are coming into the office of the agriculturist asking for work. It might be of advantage for the ranchers who wish help to list their wants at the agricultural office. In this way the laborers and the opportunities can be quickly brought together. Come in and tell Mr. Miller what help you will need and when you will need it. It might also be well to state what wage you will pay.
Don’t allow the little colt to follow its mother in the field. Keep it in the barn or shed where it may find shade and plenty of good hay to eat. A colt makes two-thirds of its growth the first twelve months of its life. If you want a good big strong horse, give the colt the best possible chance during the first summer of its life.
The girl receiving the highest vote will be the guest of the Montana State Fair, with all expenses paid. Each county will send a princess and from those girls a queen will be selected. The girls will be elaborately entertained during fair week at banquets and receptions.

Only one teaching vacancy
Only one vacancy remained yet this week on the teaching staff for the 1974-75 school year, it was reported by Dr. Lee Christensen, Polson school Superintendent.
Interviews were in progress this week for the vocal music position on the Polson school staff. Appointments, subject to confirmation by the school board, have been made in other faculty vacancies.
This is among a number of preliminaries to the fall term, which also includes finding housing for the new teachers. Anyone with apartments or houses to rent in September is asked to please call the Polson School Office at 883-5555.

Number of forest fires reported in Flathead area
As in other parts of Montana, there was plenty of action in the upper east shore area of the Flathead last week.
A number of fires were started by lightning in the Soods Bay-Yellow Bay area but prompt action by a number of firefighters contained the blazes to a minimum acreage. Wednesday of last week two fires were spotted south of Henry Creek on Crane Mountain on the Flathead Lake side of the range.
Forest service crews and volunteers and personnel from the biological station fought that fire. Aerial borate drops also helped control the fire.
Also on Wednesday four men were dispatched to attack a fire in the Howsley Creek area.
On Friday, lightning caused a fire that covered about two acres on Cane Ridge before smoke-eaters put that one out. Helping control the fire were crews from Bigfork, five loggers, a Hungry Horse District crew and a number of airmen from the Lakeside radar base.
