Leonard Schliep

| August 5, 2024 12:00 AM

Leonard Schliep was born in Polson on April 23, 1946, to Lester and Mary Benson Schliep. He passed away on Aug. 1, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.

Leonard graduated from Polson High School in 1965 and shortly thereafter enlisted in the Navy and was in the Construction Battalions Pacific. He served two tours in Vietnam.

Leonard was honorably discharged in October of 1969. He returned to Polson where he began a long career in construction and property management.

Leonard married Shirley Meidinger in 1974 and gained children Brit, Kandi and Shawn.  Together they had their daughter Mindy. They later divorced, but have remained the very best of friends.

He joined his partner Darci and they have been together for the past 18 years.

Leonard was a hardworking provider for his family. He loved to take his kids on adventures to Spotted Bear. He enjoyed visiting and spending time with friends and family. Leonard was always willing to give a helping hand to anyone in need and would have gladly given you the shirt off his back.

Leonard loved to sit in his chair on top of the hill and watch the bridge and river traffic go by. He had a wonderful infectious laugh, and boy did he love his cars.

Leonard is preceded in death by his father, Lester Schliep, his mother, Mary Benson Schliep, and his sister, Marilyn Schliep Zatsky.

Leonard is survived by his partner, Darci Vert, her daughter, Kayla Anderson, and her grandson, Jaden; the mother of his children, Shirley Meidinger Schliep; his children, Mindy Nowlen (Destrey), Brit Schliep (Brooke), Kandi Case (Tim) and Shawn Davis (Stephanie); grandchildren Shelbie, Cody, Sydnee, Emily, Brenden, Maycee, Dugan, Evan, Seth and Willy; eight great-grandchildren; his sister, Kathy Richwine (Mason); and many wonderful friends and extended family.

A Celebration of Life and Honor Guard presentation will take place Saturday, Aug. 10, from 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m. at Leonard’s Place.
