I overheard a conversation about a person who didn’t want to go to exercise class at the Senior Center because “Everyone who goes there dies!”

Well, yes, they do. We all die from something. Sometimes it’s laughter – the best-kept secret for a life well-lived.

Free Oral Health Screenings will be offered by registered dental hygienists from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16.

Nominations for officers and board members are now open for our next fiscal year starting Sept. 1. The annual meeting and elections start at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 23. Lunch is served at noon.

You can look forward to events for dues-paying members in August (Banana splits?). Dues are only $15.

The center is looking for a nutrition director, full or part-time, salary DOE. Office management and kitchen skills are a plus.

Activities at the Polson center, open to all, include: wood carving for beginners, 1 p.m. Wednesday and Friday, join any week; self-guided, video-assisted exercise, 10:30-11:30 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, sitting or standing; bingo, 6:30 p.m. Fridays ($100 blackout), with playing card bingo on the first and third Wednesdays; pinochle, 12:30-3 p.m. Thursdays (walk-ins are welcome); Wednesday is game day – bring a game and a group of friends from 1-3 p.m.

The pool table is open 8 a.m.-3 p.m. weekdays. Inquire at the center about bridge.

A veteran’s service officer visits the center on the first Friday and third Tuesday of each month.

Meals are available for sit-down, take-out or delivery from 11:45 a.m.-12:30 p.m. weekdays; a suggested donation of $5 helps support the nutrition program. The menu is posted each week at the center, although it’s subject to change. Call before 10 a.m. for grab-n-go.

Upcoming main dishes include: beef enchiladas, Aug. 8; blueberry strata and sausage links, Aug. 9; chicken and rice soup, Aug. 12; ham and scalloped potatoes, Aug. 13; chicken pot pie, Aug. 14; Philly cheese steak sandwich, Aug. 15; meatloaf, Aug. 16.

The center is open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays at 504 Third Ave. E. For more information, call 406-883-4735, email polsonseniorcenter@gmail.com or visit us on Facebook.
