Montanans can apply now for property-tax rebate

| August 22, 2024 12:00 AM

The Montana Property Tax Rebate of up to $675 a year on property taxes paid on Montanans’ primary residence for the 2023 tax year is now available.

To qualify, property owners must have:

  • Owned and lived in a Montana residence for at least seven months in 2023;
  • Had property taxes, including special assessments and other fees, billed on that residence; and
  • Paid those property taxes.

To claim the 2023 rebate, apply at tap.dor.mt.gov. Paper forms are available on the GetMyRebate.mt.gov website or by calling 406-444-6900.

Property owners must apply for the rebate between Aug. 15 and Oct. 1.

According to the Montana Legal Services Association, there were several rebate scams circulating last year during the application period. Head to GetMyRebate.mt.gov for up-to-date information, as well as who to contact with questions or concerns.
