East Helena, Laurel survive Maidens

Ronan dropped a heartbreaker to East Helena 62-61 in crossover basketball action on Saturday, Dec. 21. Arianna Zepeda led the Maidens with 12 points while Zailee Hewankorn had 11.

Ronan trailed 30-25 at halftime, but outscored the Vigilantes by eight points in the third quarter to take the lead. East Helena, however, scored 21 points in the final stanza to clinch the victory.

Ally Luedtke and Neveah Perez each added eight points in the loss.

On Friday, the Maidens fell to Laurel 63-60. Ronan posted 23-21 halftime lead but couldn’t hold on in the second half. Laurel outscored the Maidens by five points after halftime, which proved to be just enough for the victory.

Kailyn Marengo scored 18 points; Perez had a career-high for the Maidens, hitting six shots and finishing with 14 points; and Hewankorn contributed eight points.

Maidens lock down on Corvallis

Ronan’s defense clamped down on Corvallis in a 40-18 victory on Tuesday, Dec. 17. While Kailyn Marengo led the Maidens with 12 points and 10 rebounds, the Ronan defense held Corvallis to three points in the first quarter and no points in the third quarter.

Ronan had a 22-9 halftime lead and then went on a 14-0 run in the third quarter.

Arianna Zepada had seven points, five assists and six steals, while Nevaeh Perez posted seven points and seven rebounds.
