Robert Sigurd "Bob" Syvrud, 89
Robert (Bob) Sigurd Syvrud, age 89, of Polson passed away on Monday, Dec. 9, 2024, of natural causes. He was born to Sigurd and Marion Syvrud on Oct. 23, 1935, in Mandan, N.D.
He graduated from Mandan High School in 1953. He then attended Concordia College in Moorehead, Minn., and Veterinary School at Washington State University in Pullman, Wash.
On Feb. 2, 1958, he married the love of his life, June Tosterud of Bismark, N.D. The couple lived in Alberta, Canada, before moving on to Mandan, N.D. and Palo Alto, Calif. They moved to Polson in 1973.
Bob practiced veterinary medicine until 1980. He taught Vocational Agriculture and Welding at Polson High School from 1980 until 1985. He was also the Future Farmers of America advisor during this time.
Bob had a positive influence on his students. They built trailers, livestock chutes, horse ambulances and modified tractors to hydrostatic drive, winning countless awards at Montana State University Industrial Arts Fairs.
In 1986 he began consulting for animal health companies. From this experience he founded Summit Research. His company performed field trials for equine vaccines securing USDA approval for these products. He retired in 2000.
As a young boy he accepted Jesus as his personal savior and that relationship enriched his life and was the foundation of his many lifelong friendships.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife, June, his daughter, Susan, and his brother, Richard.
He is survived by his two sons and their families: Kevin of Helena and his children, Haaken (Jessica) and their daughter, Elsie June, and Keegan, Jabin, Ayanna (Trevor) and Malachi; Eric (Dana) of Missoula and their children, Ciera and Soren; and his brother, Gerald of Hawley, Minn.
Memorials may be made to Christian Veterinary Mission, 1903 Freemont Ave., Seattle, WA 98133; Polson Community Church, 1814 1st Street E., Polson, MT 59860; or a ministry or charity of your choice.
A memorial service will be held at Polson Community Church on Saturday, Jan. 4, at 10 a.m. A reception will be held at the church immediately following the service. Memories and condolences may be sent to the family at lakefuneralhomeandcremation.com.
