Wrestling Roundup: TwoTeeth a champion at Holiday Classic
Ronan girls had five placers at the CMR Holiday Classic over the weekend, including champion Tirza TwoTeeth, who went 4-0 to win the 235-pound championship.
The Ronan senior and two-time state champ had three pins, including a 48-second pin over Billings Senior’s Teaka Mahlmeister in the championship bout.
Ronan finished fourth as a team and was the highest scoring A school at the tournament.
Leona Dodson Howe was fifth in the 155-pound bracket, posting four pins and then notching a major division, 11-3 win over Columbia Falls’ Samantha Larsen.
Ronan’s Destiny Finley placed eighth in the 130-pound bracket. Finley strung together five victories in the consolation bracket to get to the podium.
Teammate Judasha Ellsworth was also eighth at 235 pounds, pinning two in her tournament action. Also at 235 pounds, Haven Houle was sixth, scoring three pins, including two in less than a minute.
Mission’s Laurin Padilla was seventh in the 235-pound bracket. Padilla notched two pins in the tournament, and won the seventh-place match over Ronan’s Ellsworth by a score of 6-5.
Three Lake County athletes place at CMR Classic
Ronan had two placers at the Great Falls CMR Holiday Classic over the weekend. Koda King placed fifth at 165-pounds and improved his season record to 17-2, while Dominique McKay placed seventh.
King won his first three matches before falling to an AA wrestler in the quarterfinals. King then ripped off two wins in the consolation bracket. In the fifth-place match, he scored a 5-3 victory over Glasgow’s William Kirland. King finished with three pins on the weekend.
McKay fell in his first match, but then won five straight. In the seventh-place match, he defeated Helena Capital’s Dane Butler.
Mission-Charlo’s Ryan Sharbono was fifth in the 285-pound bracket. Sharbono scored two straight pins in less than a minute, then recorded two more pins to reach the semifinals. In the fifth-place match, Sharbono pinned Billings West’s Christian Allies in 1:58.
Sorrell a winner in Kellogg
Polson girls had five placers at the George Wild Memorial Tournament in Kellogg, Idaho, over the weekend, including Abighail Sorrell who won the 185-235-pound bracket with three pins under three minutes.
Ciri Nice was third in the 100-pound bracket, notching two falls in less than 90 seconds, including a pin over Priest River’s Ezrah Vollendorff in the third-place matchup. Teammate Avari Stone also placed third, winning a sudden victory matchup in the quarterfinals, posting a 26-second pin in the consolation semifinals and then pinning Eureka’s Kricket Bridges in the third-place match.
Skyla Nielsen was second in the 132-pound bracket, picking up three pins. Vanessa Wheeler was third in the 152-pound bracket. Wheeler worked her way through the consolation bracket with three pins, including a 44-second pin over Eureka’s Maddie Morris in the third-place match.
Polson drops dual to Columbia Falls
Polson boys fell in dual action over Columbia Falls in Northwest A Conference action on Tuesday, Dec. 17, by a score of 41-36. The Pirates posted five pins, and were barely edged by the Wildcats’ six pins, while both teams exchanged forfeits.
Polson’s Wyatt Moldenhaur won the 103-pound bout over Columbia Falls’ Tucker Williams with a pin in 1:18. At 138 pounds, Levi Atkins pinned C-Falls’ Kolbe Cronk in 3:07, while Pirate teammate Daniel O’Roake won his 150-pound bout over Columbia Falls’ Rebel Crump in 5:20.
Sheamis Cobb won the 157-pound bout for Polson with a pin in 2:55 over Columbia Falls’ Bryan LaFex-Toavs.
At 215 pounds, Polson’s Jaidon Mahkuk pinned Adam Lolli in 3:44.
Arlee girls win Christmas Invite; boys place second
Arlee girls won the school’s Christmas Invite last weekend, while the boys placed second.
The girls scored 43 points as a team, far outpacing second-place Deer Lodge, which scored 28 points.
Anola Naugle won the 120-pound bracket, notching four pins along the way. Teammate Kayden Dillard placed fourth after notching a 26-second pin.
Porter Pier was also first, winning the 140-pound bracket with two pins and Nizhoni Haynes won the 145-pound bracket with two pins. Teammate Lily Adams was second in the 145-pound bracket, also notching a pin.
On the boys’ side, Jeryn Belcourt won the 175-pound bracket, notching a 17-0 technical fall and then a pin for the championship.
Brody Smith was second for the Warriors in the 138-pound bracket, winning his first two matches by pin. Teammate Dusty Haynes was second at 157 pounds, also winning his first two matches by pin.
Bridger Smith placed second in the 190-pound bracket, while Isadore Mitchell was third.
Jeremy Wheeler was second in the 165-pound bracket, notching a pin over Deer Lodge’s Gavin King.
Arlee’s Dominick Haynes was third at the 132-pound bracket, posting two pins, including a 55-second pin over Darby’s Tristen Spross.
