Mission Valley Championships yield several local champs

Brody Smith lands on top, followed by several second, third finishers

Several Lake County teams competed at the Mission Valley Championships, held Saturday at St. Ignatius High School.

Arlee’s Brody Smith won the 120-pound bracket, notching an eight-second fall in the semifinals and defeating Flathead’s Davin Naldrett in 97 seconds in the championship bout.

At 113 pounds, Ronan’s Oliver Reynolds was second, notching a pin in 1:47 over Flathead’s Tristan Cheff in the semifinals. Teammate Brady Hout was second at 182 pounds, winning by pin in the quarterfinals and the semifinals. Arlee’s Jeryn Belcourt was fourth in the 182-pound bracket, scoring two falls.

Arlee’s Jeremy Martin was third in the 138-pound bracket, scoring pins in the consolation semifinals and the third-place match. Teammate Dillon Dwelle was third at 145 pounds, with three falls in less than a minute.

Other third-place finishers included Mission-Charlo’s Dakota Zeiler at 132 pounds, who notched a pin in the quarterfinals, a 23-20 decision in the consolation semifinals, and an injury victory in the third-place match.

Koda King was third in the 152-pound bracket, winning by fall in the first two rounds, then notching a pin in the consolation semifinals and the third-place match. Arlee’s Grady O’Conner was sixth in the same bracket after pinning three opponents.

At 160 pounds, Ronan’s Dominique McKay was third after notching three pins and a technical fall.

The Chief’s Skyler Sias was fifth in the 132-pound category, picking up two falls in the consolation bracket.

Mission-Charlo’s Kelby Dumont was sixth, and teammate Jack Keast was fifth in the 160-pound bracket. Keast had two pins and was on his way to the podium. At 170 pounds, Mission-Charlo’s Donovan Daniels was fourth after pinning two foes.

Three local champs triumph at Girls Mission Mountain Classic

Three Lake County wrestlers were champions at the Girls Mission Mountain Classic in St. Ignatius on Saturday.

Tirza TwoTweeth stood atop the podium in first place for Ronan in the 235-pound bracket, notching two pins in the process. Also at 235 pounds, Maiden teammate Judasha Ellsworth was third.

Arlee’s Anola Naugle was first at 107 pounds as she pinned two foes for the victory.

Mission-Charlo’s Aubrey Sharbono was first in the 145-pound bracket after she pinned two. Teammate Meadow Ragen was first in the 165-pound bracket and pinned two to reach the top of the tournament.

Ronan’s Giselle Barron-Valenzuela was fourth in the 120-pound bracket, scoring two pins and a decision.

At 126 pounds, the Maidens’ Aailyah Stewart was third with three pins.

The 132-pounds category saw Ronan’s Destine Finley take second as a decision, and a fall allowed her to move through the bracket.
