Ronan Hall of Fame inducts third class
The Ronan Hall of Fame Induction ceremony, postponed due to cold weather and blizzard conditions in early January, was held last Saturday at the Ronan Community Center. A crowd of about 200, including family and friends of the inductees as well as other community members, turned out to welcome the third class of Hall of Famers.
Members of the new class included Lynn Olsen, Bud and Laurel Cheff, Matt Luedtke, Marilynn Tanner, Phillip Roullier and the 1972 State Championship Girls’ Track and Field Team.
Olsen was inducted as a “Distinguished Community Member” after spending several years as announcer for Ronan sporting events in addition to being an avid supporter of all Ronan High School athletic programs.
The Cheffs established, and continue to operate, the Ninepipes Museum of Early Montana with assistance from daughter Jo. The museum, located on Highway 93 on the shore of Ninepipes Reservoir, is recognized nationally for its displays featuring the Flathead Indian Reservation and early Montana settlers.
Luedtke and Roullier were recognized as “Distinguished Athletes” for their exploits on the basketball court. Roullier was “First Five All-State” in 1929 while Luedtke was Montana’s Gatorade Player of the Year in 2000.
Inducted as a “Distinguished Coach,” Tanner coached girls’ basketball and track in the late 1960s and early ’70s. One of the teams she helped coach as an assistant was the 1972 girls’ track and field team that brought home a state title.
The “Distinguished Team” included Chris and Nadine Clairmont, Becky and Diane Rody, Teri and Florine Camel, Diane Mathern, Ramona Maughan, and Ann Knudson – all members of the 1972 State Championship Girls’ Track and Field Team.
