A Girls: Lady Pirates best Libby; Maidens lose to Browning, Whitefish

Polson takes out Libby

In a low-scoring defensive battle, Polson picked up a 35-30 Northwest A Conference victory over Libby Saturday, Feb. 3. The win improved the Lady Pirates to 4-5 in league and 7-8 overall.

Rylee Taylor-Jefferson led Polson with 12 points, while McKenna Hanson added eight points. Hanson crossed the 200-point career milestone.

Polson trailed 12-11 at halftime but outscored Libby by five points in the third quarter to take a 26-22 lead and held on in the fourth.

Libby fell to 0-9 in conference play on the season. Polson also fell to No. 1-ranked Bigfork 63-21 in Northwest A action on Tuesday, Jan. 30. The Valkyries led 40-15 at halftime.

Browning defeats Ronan

Browning girls scored at least 18 points each quarter in its 78-32 Northwest A Conference victory over Ronan on Saturday, Feb. 3.

Lauryn Buhr led the Maidens with nine points, while Nikki Kendall added eight.

Browning opened the game with an 18-7 run and led 36-14 at the break. The Lady Indians also finished the game on a 19-2 run.

Ronan fell to 3-6 in league play and 5-10 overall.

Slow second half start hampers Ronan vs. Whitefish

A slow third quarter by the Maidens hampered them in a 45-38 Northwestern A Conference loss to Whitefish on Thursday, Feb. 1. Arianna Zepeda’s 10 points led Ronan in the league contest.

Ronan led by three at halftime – 21-18 – but Whitefish went on a 12-1 run in the third quarter to take the lead and held on in the fourth.

Nikki Kendall scored six for Ronan in her second game with the Maidens while also pulling down nine rebounds. Lauryn Buhr and Maddy Illig each scored five. It was Whitefish’s second league win of the season.
