Mission, Arlee each place fourth at District

Mission comes within two of Plains

Mission mounted a comeback against Plains but ultimately fell 52-50 to place fourth at the Western 7B District Tournament in St. Ignatius on Saturday, Feb. 17.

Lex LaFrombois notched 22 points for the Bulldogs, who were down 30-28 at halftime. Plains increased their lead by four points in the third quarter, but Mission outscored the Horsemen 12-8 in the fourth.

Jose O’Brien added 15 points to Mission’s total, while Landon Walks Over Ice notched 11.

Mission will move on to the Western B Divisional at Salish Kootenai College, competing against Missoula Loyola at 8 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 22.

Bulldogs don't fall for Trojan horse

Mission went on a 22-8 run in the second quarter and fended off the Trojans in the second half to down Troy in the Western 7B District Tournament last Saturday.

The Bulldogs got a big game from Jose O’Brien, who poured in 28 points for the victory. Mission trailed 14-10 after one quarter but had a 32-22 lead at halftime. Troy pulled to within 39-36 in the third quarter.

Lex LaFrombois added 10 points for Mission, while Vinny Shepard added six. The Bulldogs’ two wins in the district tournament equaled their win total for the regular season.

Eureka takes down Mission

Eureka has yet to lose against a Western 7B team this year, and continued that streak against Mission on Friday, Feb. 16, with an 84-32 victory in the district tournament.

Eureka jumped out to a 27-10 lead in the first quarter and went on runs of 15-5 and 19-2 during the game for the victory.

Jose O’Brien led the Bulldogs with 18 points, while Landon Walks Over Ice added 10 points.

Eureka ended up being the district tournament champion.

Bulldogs open District Tournament with win

Mission opened up the Western 7B District Tournament with a 62-43 victory over Superior on Tuesday, Feb. 13. Lex LaFrombois notched 26 points, while Jose O’Brien scored another 20 points in the victory.

Mission led 22-5 after one quarter and 35-19 at halftime. The Bulldogs then went on a 17-8 run to begin the third quarter.

Landon Walks Over Ice added nine points to Mission’s total. During the regular season, Mission had previously defeated Superior Jan. 19 and lost to the Bobcats 66-46 on Feb. 9.

Arlee takes fourth at District

Arlee fell to Florence-Carlton 68-60 on Saturday, Feb. 17 to place fourth in the District 6B Tournament in Deer Lodge. They'll face Eureka in the opening round of the Western B Boys Basketball Tournament at Salish Kootenai College in Pablo at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 22.

Warriors take down host 

Eight different Warriors scored as Arlee bounced back from a loss in the District 6B Tournament to defeat host Deer Lodge 84-62. The Warriors got 23 points from Ben Harlow-Old Person, as Arlee scored at least 18 points in every quarter of the game.

The Warriors turned a six-point lead in the first quarter to a 44-30 halftime lead. Arlee then outscored Deer Lodge by seven points in the third on its way to victory.

Tavin Lapahie had 13 points, while Kaiden Ostby had nine points. Ethan Fiddler, Kendall O’Neill, Kenneth Manzanares and Trenth Rutherford all scored eight points. The win was Arlee’s 17th of the season.

Warriors open tournament with loss

Arlee opened up the Western 6B District Tournament with a 66-55 loss to Anaconda on Friday, Feb. 16.

The Copperheads took a four-point 34-30 lead at halftime and expanded that lead to six points in the third. In the fourth, Anaconda was able to outscore the Warriors by five points.

Ben Harlow-Old Person led the Warriors with 28 points, while Kaiden Ostby and Tavin Lapahie each had eight points.
