Program explores the MMIP epidemic
The Flathead Reservation Human Rights Coalition hosts a Montana Conversation program with Buck Hitswithastick at 6 p.m. March 6 at the Mission Valley United Methodist Church at the top of Post Creek Hill, north of St. Ignatius
The evening begins with a potluck, followed by a talk at 7 p.m. titled “Empowering Voices: Addressing the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Peoples Epidemic.”
Hitswithastick, who makes Native tools and teaches traditional Bitterroot Salish ways, tackles the urgent issue of missing and murdered Indigenous peoples in Montana and beyond. By delving into the systemic roots of this crisis, including the legacy of colonialism and ongoing discrimination, he aims to raise awareness and promote change and explore strategies for advocacy, such as policy reforms and community-driven initiatives.
He’ll also explore the importance of building alliances and community support in preventing and responding to cases of missing and murdered Indigenous people.
The presentation is free and open to the public. For more information, call Cathy Billie at 406-203-2179.
