New Main Street store offers touch of grace

Every home needs a little grace. And a new furniture and antique store in Polson aims to help homeowners add that special touch. 

Gracie Maxwell for the Home recently opened on Polson’s Main Street in the building formerly occupied by All in Stitches fabric shop. No, the owner’s name is not Gracie. It’s Christy, and she and her husband, Stacy Kintigh, own and operate the store.  

“I’ve met a lot of Gracie’s, though,” Christy said with a smile.

The name came from Grace, Christy’s mom, and Max, her dad. 

With big windows facing east on Main Street, the shop gets lots of light. It’s bright and uncluttered, and home to an array of objects and furniture pieces, some set up in vignettes and others waiting to be discovered and admired. She specializes in home-related antiques for decorating.

With an interior-decorating background, Christy shows customers how to work antiques into more contemporary decor. She hopes her shop inspires people because they can see her pairings of antiques and newer objects.  

The Kintighs have lived in the Polson area for a year, and were brought here from Oregon by her husband’s job. A little historic town called Coburg, outside of Eugene, was home to them and their last store for almost seven years. 

“We had a good run there,” Christy said. “We had wonderful customers and business. I really missed it.”

As for what items are popular, Christy noted that lots of folks like a cabin or lodge feel. Wool items, such as Pendleton pillows and blankets, are sought after, as are leather goods and taxidermy mounts, including deer, elk and moose heads. 

“My husband is a hunter so he knows the good ones,” she said. 

Really unique, one-of-a-kind pieces always draw customers, too. Also, mid-century furniture is a favorite. 

“There’s a story behind each thing,” she added.

Christy’s favorite piece of all is an antique apothecary cabinet, which they still have in their home. It came from the TV show “Grimm,” and has many drawers and cubbies.

Since they don't have time to travel to estate and antique sales, the Kintighs offer consignment items, “typically from our customers.” 

Grace Maxwell for the home is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is closed Sunday and Monday.
