Ronan Girls win Butte Central Girls Invitational
Ronan Girls Wrestling Team placed first at the Butte Central Girls Invitational on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 19-20, with four wrestlers placing first.
River Cote placed first at 100 pounds, pinning her foe in the semifinals in 39 seconds and then pinning Columbia Falls Jaelynn Nace in the championship match in 1:19.
At 126 pounds, Katie Dolence was a champion, pinning her opponent in 32 seconds in the quarterfinals and then recording another foe in the semifinals in 68 seconds. Dolence then recorded a 2-0 decision over Lockwood’s Meador Mahlmeister in the championship bout.
Leona Dodson Howe stood atop the podium in first place at 152 pounds. Howe recorded a pin in the quarterfinals in 29 seconds and then another fall in the semifinals. In the championship bout, she pinned Hardin’s Carmelia Horn in 2:52.
Tirza TwoTeeth was also a champion at 235 pounds, notching two falls in the quarterfinals and semifinals. In the first-place match, she pinned Havre’s Aliyah Stiffarm in 2:49.
At 114 pounds, Saellah Nomee was second, collecting two pins en route to the championship match. Teammate Amanda Webster was third in the same weight bracket, pinning opponents in the first round and the quarterfinals, and the consolation semifinals. She pinned Dillon’s Clancy Stetzer in the third-place match in 1:22.
Polson posts four placers
Polson had four placers at the Butte Central Girls Invitational Jan. 19-20. Harli Kinney came away as a champion at the invite, placing first at 145 pounds. Polson placed fourth in the tournament as a team.
Kinney got a bye in her first round, then picked up a pin, a victory via injury, and then pinned Columbia Falls’ Jaici Watt-Duran in 37 seconds in the championship bout.
At 107 pounds, Araeya Nelson placed second, notching a 54-second fall of Hardin’s Sailee Redding in the semifinals.
Teammate Ciri Nice placed third at 100 pounds. Nice received a bye in the first round and then recorded pins in the quarterfinals. After falling in the semifinals, Nice bounced back in the third-place match with a pin in 1:17 over Columbia Falls’ Vanessa Nace.
Abigail Sorrell was fourth for Polson at 165 pounds. Sorrell got a bye in the first round. In the quarterfinals, she recorded a pin in 51 seconds. After falling in the semifinals, Sorrell pinned her foe in the semifinals and finished on the podium.
