Ronan places third at Class A Duals; Polson is fifth

Ronan placed third at the Montana Class A Duals on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 19-20, in Butte, winning seven duals and tying another before a tiebreaker didn’t go their way.

In their first match against Hardin, Ronan won 57-18, with the Chiefs notching seven pins. Ian Dillard (103), Ridge Cote (120), August Courville (126), Jairyn Krause (138), WilJames Courville (145), Tristan Fisher (182) and Cole Dalke (205) recording falls.

Ronan followed that up, defeating Stevensville with a 77-0 dual score. Dillard (103), Krause (138), WilJames Courville (145), Nate Young (160), Fisher (182), Dalke (205), Jackson Davis (285) pinned their opponents. Ronan then received a bye in their third match.

Ronan went on to defeat East Helena 57-12 in the fourth match with seven more pins. Luc Cheff (113), Ridge  Cote (120), August Courville (126), Jairyn Krause (138), WilJames Courville (145), Dominque McKay (152) and Landon Bishop all notched falls.

Ronan defeated Fergus in its fifth match 64-9. Skyler Sias (132), WilJames Courville (145), Dominque McKay (152), Luc Cheff (113), Ridge Cote (120) and August Courville (126) posted pins.

In the championship bracket, Ronan defeated Billings Central 59-18. Ian Dillard (103), Ridge Cote (120), and Cole Dalke (205) all pinned their foes in less than a minute. August Courville (126), WilJames Courville (145), Nate Young (160), Tristan Fisher (182), and Jackson Davis (285) pinned their foes as well.

In the quarterfinals, Ronan downed Miles City 53-24 as August Courville (126), WilJames Courville (145), Landon Bishop (170), Tristan Fisher (182), and Cole Dalke (205) felled their foes.

Advancing on to the semifinals, Sidney/Fairview tied with Ronan 34-34 but won via the tiebreaker on penalties. Ronan had four pins as Tristan Fisher (182), Cole Dalke (205), Dominque McKay (152), and Landon Bishop (170) put their opponents on their backs.

In the third-place match, Ronan defeated Northwest A Conference foe Columbia Falls 43-30. Ronan had four forfeits, two pins by Ridge Cote (120) and Tristan Fisher (182), and two decisions for the victory.

Polson places fifth at Class A Duals

Polson also competed in the Mining City, placing fifth at the Montana Class A Duals with three wins.

In their first matchup, the Pirates fell 42-36 despite two pins from Cameron Chee (152) and Brody Bulette (285). Polson then had a bye in the second round.

Polson defeated Park 35-30 in its third match, as Logan Clairmont (103), Corben Carlson (113), and Jayce Hill (120) notched pins.

Northwest A Conference foe Libby/Troy defeated Polson in its fourth dual, although  Kyrin Doty (182) and Brody Bulette (285) each dispatched their opponents. The Pirates lost their fifth match against Laurel 69-6, with Doty (182) picking up Polson’s lone pin.

In the consolation bracket, Polson lost to Corvallis 66-12. Bulette (285) and Cameron Chee (152) recorded falls in their matches.

Polson bounced back in the consolation semifinals, defeating Stevensville 48-18 with five pins. Getting those falls were Mac Campbell (170), Kyrin Doty (182), Brody Bulette (285), Logan Clairmont (103) and Levi Atkins (138).

In the fifth-place match, Polson again took the lead over Park 36-30. Logan Clairmont (103), Corben Carlson (113), and Jayce Hill (120) had pins in the dual.

Arlee, Mission-Charlo post wins at Ted Kato Invitational

Mission-Charlo had three wrestlers place at the Ted Kato Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 20, in Thompson Falls.

Kelby Dumont placed third at 160 pounds, scoring four falls in the process. He recorded a pin in the first round in 47 seconds, then advanced through the quarterfinals with a fall in 1:18. After falling in the semifinals, Dumont bounced back in the consolation semifinals with a pin in 69 seconds and another fall in the third-place match.

Dakota Zeiler placed fourth at 138 pounds, notching a fall in the first round, dropping a match in the quarterfinals, and bouncing back with three pins in the consolation bracket.

Kruger Pierce also placed fourth at 152 pounds, collecting two pins. Pierce had a bye in the first round, then fell in the quarterfinals. He bounced back in the consolation bracket with two pins and won by injury in the consolation semifinals.

Arlee’s Brody Smith placed third at 120 pounds. Smith fell in the bracket’s semifinals but bounced back in the consolation bracket with a pin over Thompson Falls’ Carson Kenney. In the third-place match, Smith pinned Fort Benton’s Tyrus Reimer in 4:22.
