Lady Pirates pick up wins at Bitteroot Brawl
The 18U Lady Pirates bowed out of the 2024 Bitterroot Brawl Tournament held in Florence and Stevensville on June 28-30 with an 8-6 loss to the Falls Fusion.
In Sunday's game, Polson took the early lead, 5-2, but Great Falls scored six more runs before the Lady Pirates found the plate with a run in the fourth. Catcher Opal Nash had a double and drove in a run while Kailey Smith went 3-for-3 with two RBI.
On Saturday night, Polson defeated the CutBank SkyRiders 10-8. Polson made the most of six hits as McKenna Hanson went 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI. Carli Maley, Kailey Smith, Liz Cunningham and Gigi Hawk also drove in runs for the Pirates. Polson scored five runs in the first and five more runs in the second for the victory.
Saturday morning, Polson fended off a late Florence Sparks comeback for a 7-6 victory thanks to a home run by McKenna Hanson and RBI from Kailey Smith, Opal Nash, and Emma Smith.
The Lady Pirates led 6-0 after the first half inning, and then scored an important insurance run in the sixth. Florence scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth but their comeback fell short.
Polson opened up the tournament on Friday, June 28, with a 9-1 loss to the Missoula Avs. Polson was held to five hits, with Hanson and Kailey Smith hitting doubles and Opal Nash driving in a run.
The Lady Pirates are 6-6 on the season.
