Mission Valley Mariners sweep Loggers, split with Bitterroot

The Mission Valley A team held Libby to two hits while taking advantage of the Loggers’ five errors in a 10-0 victory on Tuesday, July 2, at home. The Mariners also won the nightcap of the doubleheader by the same score, 10-0.

Landon Shoemake pitched five and one-third innings in the first game, striking out 10. He was backed up by Mission Valley hitting that scored eight runs in the first three innings.

Dawson DuMont drove in three runs, while Cole Wadsworth and Aiden Gfroerer also brought home runs. The Mariners had four hits total in the game.

In the second game, Cole and Wyatt Wadsworth combined to throw a shutout, scattering five hits while striking out five.

Cody Haggard drove in three runs, while Wyatt Wadsworth helped his cause with a double and an RBI. Holden Emerson, Dawson DuMont, Zak Muzquiz, and Landon Shoemake also drove in runs during the matchup.

Mission Valley took a 5-0 lead in the first inning and scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth and an insurance run in the fifth. The Mariners finished with nine hits as a team, while five errors again stymied Libby.

Mission Valley splits with Bitterroot

In low-scoring doubleheader action, Mission Valley’s A team split with the Bitterroot Bucs on Saturday, July 6. In the first game, The Mariners held Bitterroot to two hits in a 4-1 victory but dropped the second game 6-4 as the Bucs scored three unanswered runs.

To start things off in the doubleheader, Dawson DuMont pitched five innings, allowing just one hit and striking out nine. Cole Wadsworth pitched the final two innings and struck out five.

Bitterroot led 1-0 through three innings before Mission Valley scored three runs in the fourth and another in the sixth. The Mariners finished with nine hits, including a 3-for-4 performance by Cole Wadsworth, who also had a double.

Landon Shoemake hit a home run and finished with three RBI, while Wyatt Wadsworth also drove in a run. Dawson DuMont had a double as well.

In the second game, Mission Valley led 4-3 through four innings before Bitterroot tied things up in the fifth and added two more runs in the sixth. The Bucs finished with nine hits.

Cole and Wyatt Wadsworth each drove in runs, as did Holden Emerson. Emerson finished the game going 2-for-4. Cody Haggard, Dawson DuMont, and Emerson also had doubles in the loss.

Mission Valley’s record is now 18-13.
