Audrey Ann Burton, 85
Audrey Ann Burton, 85, of Polson, passed away on Monday, July 2, 2024, at Providence Hospital of heart failure.
She was born on Aug. 11, 1938, in Langdon, N.D., to Ben and Hazel Nelson. At the age of 4, she and her family moved to Polson, where she attended Polson public schools and graduated in 1956. While in high school, she participated in the Baton and Flag squad.
After high school she went to comptometer school in Spokane, Wash., then moved to Livingston, where she worked for the Northern Pacific Railroad.
On Dec. 28, 1957, she married James “Jim” Burton in Polson, and the couple moved to Biloxi, Miss., then San Angelo, Texas, and Darmstadt, Germany, while Jim was stationed in the service. She lived in Dillon, Scobey and then in 1967 moved to Cut Bank for 22 years while raising her four children.
In 1989, she and Jim moved back to Polson to retire at their home on Flathead Lake. She enjoyed snow-birding to Yuma, Ariz., for the past 26 years.
Audrey was very active in the church and played the organ and piano. She enjoyed gardening and had a beautiful collection of roses, geraniums and various plants. She was leader of the aqua aerobics in Yuma. While in Cut Bank, she also owned and operated a sewing and fabric business for a couple years and was an accomplished seamstress.
She was a loving wife of 66 years, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She took care of her family and always had time to offer a friend a cup of coffee and cookie, homemade of course! She was warm and welcoming, had a witty sense of humor and could always make you smile.
Audrey is survived by her husband, Jim; four children, Phil, Cheri, Kevin and Cyndy, 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life Service is scheduled for Aug. 30, 2024, at First Baptist Church in Polson, at 11 a.m.
