Lady Pirates win two at State Tournament
The Lady Pirates 18U softball team’s season ended at the Montana Junior Olympic Fastpitch Tournament with a 3-0 loss to the Laurel Extreme on Saturday, July 13.
Laurel scored runs in the third, fifth and sixth innings while Polson was held to one hit, an Avery Starr double. Sam Rensvold pitched six innings, striking out five in the loss.
Polson fell to the Billings 406 Playmakers 3-1 early on Saturday. Avery Starr was in the circle for the Lady Pirates, striking out six and holding Billings to just three hits. The 406 Playmakers scored two runs in the first and another in the third.
Polson cut into the lead in the fourth, scoring one run. Starr and Liz Cunningham had the Lady Pirates’ two hits.
Polson took down the Missoula Avs on Friday, July 12, picking up a 6-1 victory. Starr went five innings and struck out three.
Mission’s Izzy Evans pitched for the Avs, going four innings and striking out four. She also had a double for the Avs.
The Lady Pirates built a 5-1 lead through three innings and added another run in the bottom of the fourth.
Starr was 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBI. Kailey Smith, Carli Maley, and Liz Cunningham also drove in runs for the Lady Pirates. Missoula committed four errors in the game.
Sam Rensvold started the state tournament by pitching a shutout against the Bozeman Stealers for a 2-0 victory. The Lady Pirates got a double and two RBI from catcher Carli Maley, while McKenna Hanson had a double and went 2-for-2.
Polson scored its two runs in the bottom of the third and finished the game with five hits, while Rensvold held Bozeman to three hits.
Sierra Perez also went 2-for-2 in the game.
