Mission Valley Mariners sweep Miners, split with Mavs
Mission Valley sweeps Butte
There were plenty of hits to be had by the Mission Valley Mariners, who won two high-scoring games in a doubleheader sweep of the Butte Miners on Wednesday, July 17.
Everyone in the Mission Valley lineup had hits as the Mariners dispatched Butte 12-11 in its first doubleheader game. Holden Emerson hit a line drive to left field to bring home the winning run in the bottom of the seventh.
The Mariners trailed 6-1 heading into the bottom of the fourth before ripping off a five-run rally. Both teams exchanged two runs in the sixth, and Butte scored three to take a sizeable advance in the seventh.
Butte pitching, however, walked in two runs, and Emerson’s single drove in two runs for the victory. Dawson DuMont and Cody Haggard also drove in two runs during the matchup, while Wyatt Wadsworth had a home run.
Doubles were smacked by Aiden Gfroerer, Haggard, and Landon Shoemake. Haggard, Emerson, and Wyatt Wadsworth had multi-hit games.
Mission Valley finished off the doubleheader sweep as the entire Mariner lineup again had at least a hit in a 12-8 victory. Mission Valley finished with 16 hits as a team, including a 4-for-4 performance by Dawson DuMont, who had an RBI and a double.
The game was tied 4-4 heading into the bottom of the fourth when the Mariners notched a four-run rally. Butte cut the lead to one in the top of the fifth, but Mission Valley scored four more runs in the sixth. Zak Muzquiz picked up the pitching win, throwing the final two innings, allowing one hit and one run, and striking out a batter.
Landon Shoemake had a double and two hits, while Brayson DuMont went 3-for-4. Cody Haggard drove in two runs, while Emerson drove in three. Haggard and Cymian Kauley also had doubles.

Mariners split doubleheader with Missoula
The Mariners’ bats heated up in the second game to split a doubleheader against the Missoula Mavericks A team on Saturday, July 20 at home.
Mission Valley was held to three hits in their doubleheader opener against Missoula, falling 7-2. Cole Wadsworth had the Mariners' lone RBI, as Mission Valley saw a 1-0 lead in the first three innings evaporate as Missoula scored a run in the fourth and four runs in the fifth.
The Mariners bounced back, however, in the second game as they scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth en route to a 7-6 victory. Dawson DuMont hit two home runs in the game, including a tater that served as the go-ahead run.
DuMont finished the game with three RBI, while Cymian Kauley drove in two runs. Cody Haggard and Brayson DuMont had multi-hit games, while Wyatt Wadsworth also hit a home run.
