Mission Valley Mariners win season opener

Mission Valley opened the season with a 17-8 victory over the Missoula Impact at home on Sunday, May 26, in American Legion Class A baseball action.

Dawson DuMont was 4-for-4 in the game with five RBI and a double. Landon Pablo also drove in two runs, while Holden Emerson had a double in the victory.

Mission Valley trailed 6-1 heading into the bottom of the third when it exploded for seven runs. Kalispell tied the game up in the top of the fourth, but the Mariners had another big rally, this time for five runs. They followed that up with a run in the fifth and three in the sixth.

Mission Valley finished with nine total hits, while Missoula had eight errors in the matchup.

In the nightcap of the doubleheader, offense was more of a premium, and the Missoula Impact won 4-2.

DuMont and Landon Pablo combined to allow just five hits on the mound while striking out five.

Missoula led 1-0 through three innings and added three more runs in the fourth. Mission Valley scored both its runs – driven in by Cole Wadsworth and Dawson DuMont – in the bottom of the sixth. The Mariners had three errors in the game.

Aiden Gfroerer had a double, while DuMont had a home run in the matchup.

Mission Valley sweeps Lakers

Mission Valley swept the Kalispell Lakers in American Legion baseball action on Monday, May 27. The Mariners opened up the doubleheader with a 13-3 victory, as Dawson DuMont homered and drove in six runs.

Mission Valley led 5-2 after three innings and grew its lead to 9-3 after six innings before notching four scores in the top of the seventh.

DuMont was 3-for-4 with two doubles and his homer. Cole Wadsworth was 2-for-3, while Cody Haggard had a triple and drove in two runs.

Landon Shoemake and Cash Atkison combined to scatter eight Kalispell hits. Shoemake struck out five batters in five innings.

In the nightcap, the Mariners overcame a 6-2 deficit through three innings for a 15-11 victory. Cole Wadsworth, Cody Haggard and Landon Shoemake had multiple hits in the game.

Wadsworth had four RBI and two doubles in the game, while Holden Emerson and Aiden Gfroerer each drove in two runs. Gfroerer also had a double, as did Haggard and Dawson DuMont.

Kalispell led by four runs before Mission Valley scored seven runs in the fourth and another six runs in the sixth. The Mariners finished the game with 11 total hits.

Mission Valley is now 3-1 on the season.
