Dawson DuMont lifts Mission Valley past Bitterroot

Mission Valley’s A Team scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth for a 5-4 victory over the Bitterroot Red Sox in Polson on Tuesday, June 18, in American Legion Baseball action.

Dawson DuMont homered and drove in two runs with two hits while pitching the first four innings of the game, allowing no hits and striking out eight.

Bitterroot led 1-0 after three innings, but Mission Valley tied it up in the bottom of the fourth. Both teams exchanged a run in the fifth.

Bitterroot pulled ahead 3-2 in the top of the seventh, but the Mariners evened things up in the bottom of the frame. After the Red Sox once again took the lead, Mission Valley was able to notch the walk-off thanks to a single by DuMont.

George Wyman picked up the win, pitching the final inning and allowing no hits. Mission Valley finished with 11 hits, while Bitterroot had just three.

Landon Shoemake had a triple and two hits in the matchup, while Cody Haggard, Wyatt Wadsworth, and Aiden Gfroerer each had two hits.

Mariners thump Bitterroot

Mission Valley’s A Team got off to a hot start, scoring six runs in the first inning en route to a 13-6 victory against the Bitterroot Red Sox on Wednesday, June 19, in Polson. Landon Shoemake hit a home run and finished with four RBI and two hits.

George Wyman started the game on the mound, pitching four-and-a-third innings, allowing one earned run, while Shaedon Perry pitched the final two and two-thirds innings and allowed just one hit while striking out two.

Cole Wadsworth, Wyatt Wadsworth, and Landon Pablo each had two hits. Pablo finished with three RBI in the game.

Mariners fall in Big Bucks Tourney Opener

At the Libby Big Bucks Tournament on Friday, June 21, Mission Valley’s A Team suffered a 12-8 loss to open the weekend on Friday, June 21, in American Legion action. North Idaho scored five runs in the sixth inning and tacked on three more runs in the final two innings while finishing with 12 hits.

Mission Valley led 4-1 after three innings, but North Idaho tied things up in the top of the fourth. The Mariners added four runs in the bottom of the fourth but would not score again in the game.

Mission Valley finished with nine hits, including a 2-for-4 performance from Dawson DuMont, including a triple and three RBI. Cody Haggard had a double and two RBI, while Aiden Gfroerer went 2-for-3 with a double. Holden Emerson also had a double.

Mission Valley bounces back against Central Alberta

The Mariners bounced back in the Libby Big Bucks Tournament on Saturday, June 22, defeating Central Alberta 17-2. Mission Valley had 13 hits, including home runs from Dawson DuMont and Landon Shoemake in the victory.

Mission Valley was leading Central Alberta 4-2 heading into the bottom of the fourth, then scored 13 runs to ice the game.

Cole Wadsworth started the game pitching, striking out eight in three-and-one-third innings pitched. Wadsworth also drove in two runs. Cody Haggard had two doubles and two RBI, while DuMont finished with four RBI.

Wyatt Wadsworth was 2-for-4 with a double.

Mariners blank Moscow

Mission Valley shut out Moscow in their third game of the Libby Big Bucks Tournament on Saturday, June 22, winning 13-0. The Mission Valley pitching of Shaedon Perry and Zak Muzquiz held the Mules to just three hits.

The Mariners led 3-0 after three innings and added three more runs in the fourth, and then posted a seven-run rally in the sixth. Mission Valley finished with 11 hits, including a 3-for-5 performance by Cole Wadsworth. Wadsworth finished with a triple and two RBI.

Aiden Gfroerer also had a triple and three RBI, while Perry helped his own cause with a double and an RBI. Muzquiz had a multi-hit game as well.

Central Alberta sneaks past Mission Valley

Central Alberta scored two runs in the top of the eighth for the 8-7 victory over Mission Valley at the Libby tournament on Sunday, June 23. Cash Atkison struck out six batters in over six innings of work, while Dawson DuMont homered for the second time in the tournament in the game.

Mission Valley led 5-3 through three innings, but Central Alberta cut the lead to one in the top of the fourth and then added two more runs in the top of the sixth. Mission Valley pulled within 7-6 in the bottom of the seventh before Central Alberta’s rally in the eighth. The Mariners did score a run in the eighth, but it wasn’t enough.

Mission Valley committed six errors in the matchup and had five hits as a team. Cole Wadsworth had a double and two hits to go along with an RBI. DuMont finished with three RBI. Aiden Gfroerer was also 2-for-2 in the game.

Mission Valley is now 10-10 on the season.
